Hopefully the NYMR are in the next round ( £1m-plus) grants from the Culture recovery fund. ( The SVR got £901k I recall)

Did the NYMR benefit from the earlier Heritage Lottery money ( max £250k) by any chnce?

The 9 on the shuttle has shades of the service on the Alnwick branch in the sixties when they had one of the "Consett" 9s with a pair of Westinghouse Air Pumps fitted, on the right hand side half way along the running board, to operate the doors of the iron ore hoppers on the service.

    Great news for the NYMR:

One of the UK’s most popular attractions, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, has been awarded a lifeline £1.94million grant from Arts Council England’s £1.57bn Culture Recovery Fund, that will make a significant impact in securing a future for the heritage charity, and keep it steaming through 2021 and beyond.
Chris Price, General Manager at NYMR comments: “Let’s face it, 2020 has been a whirlwind of a year, and there has been so much uncertainty. Here at NYMR we’ve launched a number of crisis appeals and had to call on the generosity of members of the public to help us pull through and it’s been bloody tough, but we’ve made it this far.
“But I can’t tell you the sigh of relief we’ve breathed today after receiving the news from Arts Council England that we’ve been awarded such a significant grant. It will enable us to continue to offer a safe, revised service and build back to our 300,000 annual visitors as well as secure jobs and our heritage skills.
“It’s a real testament to the work that we do to have recognition of the importance of NYMR to the region, both economically and culturally. It also means our Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey (YMJ) project can carry on, enabling us to continue with building our conservation and heritage apprenticeship programmes, our lineside ecological conservation work, offer fuss free access for disabled visitors, grow our learning offer at Pickering and Goathland, and of course reach out to individuals, groups and communities to share our passion for the history of the region through steam travel.
“Thank you to Arts Council England and the Culture Recovery Fund.”

I'm lead to believe that, the Lottery have made an additional small grant [of around £200k] over and above the YMJ grant. To aid the replacement bridge work on bridges 24+25 at Goathland.....

More good news for an NYMR based organisation:

    LNERCA awarded £38,000
The LNER Coach Association is most pleased to announce an award of £38,000 from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund. This much needed finance will enable us to resume work in conserving and restoring some of our priceless collection of heritage railway carriages. It also gives us the opportunity to develop the sharing of our heritage skill sets with local technical colleges, and the chance to attract a wider range of volunteers. It is going to make a real difference to our activities in 2021 and beyond. The LNERCA is grateful to the Cultural Recovery Fund for supporting us in our aims. Post lockdown you will be able to visit our workshop at Pickering and see our work in progress.

Excellent work from the various application-writing teams! Especially coming so soon after the YMJ success, and not that long after the Bridges & Wheels awards from other bodies. it just shows what can be done with the right set-up and people - the WSR Plc should take note.

As seen on a recent facebook post, Carriage and Waggon staff have begun fitment of Retention Tank Toilets to some of the railway's MK1 coaching stock.
