Last Thursday and just before the lockdown came into force in Piemonte, Northern Italy, Class 835 no 241 was lifted from it's plinth near Novara and moved to Borgosesia for cosmetic restoration and eventual display in the Valsesia Railway Museum.
The following two photos show the loco being lifted and then on the way to Borgosesia.

This forms part of the exciting future plans for the railway in Valsesia and the Museum at Varallo.
On a less positive note is the cancellation of the steam specials during the lockdown period. However these will return as soon as we can. Photos from Facebook and thanks to MFV.

A number of years back possibly 2005, I was in Stressa for a holiday alongside Lake Maggiore.
We took a trip towards Milan but not that far.
Recall seeing an engine boxed in at one station, no idea of a town name now.
Any idea if it is still there, the engine that is.?

My guess would be Romagnano Sesia.

That loco has been there for ages and is property of the local town council. Despite trying many times to discuss the future of the loco as part of the museum collection the council states categorically that the loco will stay there. However it is gradually deteriorating and I am seriously worried for what is left of the non ferrous parts. The road bridge next to the station was washed away in the floods last month so it's no longer a simple 2 minute diversion on my way to the Alps to pop in and have a look.

Edit. That is on the old line from Domodossola to Novara, now principally a freight route but we managed to run steam there not so long ago for the 150th anniversary of opening.

There are still quite a few steam locos on plinths or just left outside here in Italy. They are not so unusual to find around the network.

Another 0-6-0T FS 851 186 is plinthed in a park alongside the lake in Como. It was quite complete and appeared well cared for when photographed in June last year.
    Cheers,
    Ray.

On any of our visits to Como my wife always wants to walk along the lakeside and I always fancy a walk in the park, and she still wonders why!

Was that engine in the park a local engine to Como I wonder ?.
I can't identify the loco but I grabbed this shot from a passing train heading south out of Como in 1970. ( I was young back then, honest !)
