I think I heard that the A1 Trust will run a train on the S & C in October but this may not be the case.

For Christ's sake have you nothing better to say about the loco than that.
There must be dozens of things that are different from a 1950's A1, does it matter. ](*,)

Another smashing day out of seeing 60163 :)
Was up nice and early this morning to go get it on its move from York to Doncaster at Colton and we got a nice blast on both the whistles :D something i've wanted for some time now...
then wowww! the amount of people that turned up at dinner was untrue, and some peoples parking is diabolical, i've never seen anything like it.
Anyway footage now online with the usual HD option.

    Footage Available Here

Watching this and some of the other footage, there does seem to be a problem with drifting exhaust obscuring the cab.

I noticed this too and am intrigued - two questions - 1: Was this a noticable problem with Blue Peter? and 2: Might the rimless 1940s chimney that I see has now been fitted have an impact?

Before anyone gets on their high horse, this is not a criticism of the A1 or anything, I'm just interested to know why drifting exhaust still seems to be a problem in spite of the deflectors that I have always understood cured it.

It obscures the cab to lineside watchers - but does it throw the exhaust clear for the driver?

That's all that's needed - his signal sighting.

Don't forget that there was a strong crosswind yesterday, which does throw a spanner in the works.

I think I have read somewhere that the rimless chimney was designed to improve smoke clearance as it removes the eddy that can occur around the lip of the more traditional looking design.
