The WSSRT may soon find that this was a Pyrrhic victory.

I believe that 'the ten' stood in good faith for what they believed was best for the future of the WSR, and they had my vote.

If they all hand their cards in and walk away, I for one would not blame them. It will be the WSR's loss.

 

One can only hope that a cash strapped council doesn't feel the need to ask its leaseholders for cash and then decide to evict those who don't pay especially where significant sums can be saved, use made of returned assets and the leaseholder is short of funds to fight eviction.

 

It may not have to evict anyone. If the Plc goes tits up, the SCC can take back its land and sell it off to the highest bidder. Ominously, next January wil be the 50th anniversary of the closure of the line by BR.

 

Perhaps a special last train will be allowed to run into Minehead on 1st January 2021. Well, it was great while it lasted.

 

Care to elaborate on this for those of us who are not familiar with such religious tracts.

If the line does not re-open, some will say it is because of gross mismanagement, and others will say it is because of Covid. Even with no more WSR, they will still never agree.

If the line does re-open, the prospect of a new station east of the crossing, paid for by developers taking over the present station site, now looks all too likely.

"Motes and beams", it's a treatise on hypocrisy. A fairly common trope on this thread seems to be a comment that goes along the lines "what the railway needs now is a process of reconciliation to heal the divisions, so we hope the other lot will now f*** off so that our side can get on with that reconciliation process ..."

So rather than use their block vote they are going to abstain which will allow all of the smaller shareholders an opportunity to express their own opinions.

What a good idea, give every shareholder a chance have a say and make a difference.

Now all we need is the WSSRT Board to show some integrity and do the same... or will it be more of the "You scratch my back....."?

 

I hear that in Darlington they are looking for a turntable...

 

It would not surprise me, if that was the intention all along, and is why the PLC, or some directors with links to development companies, want so hard to obtain the freehold of the land.

 

To put that into perspective, it took four years from the start of its construction to Concorde's first flight and eight years from the start of the Apollo Programme to Neil Armstrong stepping onto the Moon. Is replacing a level crossing really on a par with rocket science?

 

They could make an offer for the 70 footer that the GWSR has on a wagon. It's 2/3 complete and I don't see any plans for it for nearly 40 years

 

Or the PLC goes tits up, the council then offer the WSRA the lease, supporters of the association buy out the assets of the former PLC, in a liquidation sale,
Meanwhile, the WSSRT, sits in the corner awaiting the call to the new chairman's office, to be told of their fate, either merge and form a new charity, or be evicted from the railway.

 

Sorry to disappoint but i see no reason to "move on". I trust others including "the ten" will continue to hold the management of WSR to account and work towards an eventual bright future when we can enjoy travelling on the "Wonderful Scenic Railway"

 

I'm sure there are developers who are getting excited at that prospect.

 

I thought there were plans to install it at Winchcombe after the Usk building and platform are complete?
