Has the new 10-year lease superseded the notice to quit?

I struggling to see why you would do that - you'd have 2 sets of admin to complete for no tangible benefit

I don't recall seeing the plea for help. There's at least one telecoms / internet / wifi whizz amongst the membership who is currently sitting next to a box of wifi extenders and 4G routers.

Furthermore, Mr Foal was able to voice a comment during the meeting so the technology that had been deployed was clearly up to the task.

... a word about why the charity owning the assets might be better. That word is protection.
Should the operating company make a hash of things having the assets inside a charity wrapper could offer greater protections depending on how circumspect the charity trustees are.

Agreed. In the worst case the operating company could go bust but if the overall charity/trust held the license then at least that would be safe. @Matt78 will know better than me but I think it is not so difficult to transfer a licence if the 'donor' company makes provision for the transfer so it is not as though the new company is applying for a new licence...

I don't think the matter of ownership is so important to some people as being the one 'in control'. A while ago there was ongoing bad feelings between the WSRA and the WSSRT while both claimed to be "The primary support charity of the WSR". Recently, in one of the WSSRT's statements, I know they have upset people by now claiming to be the railways central source of heritage knowledge (or words to that effect). The Plc seems to strut around like a self important peacock seemingly to tell everyone that they are in control, that they run the railway and everyone else should bow down to their decisions without question or hesitation...

All of this is not so much "I own it", it is more like "I'm the one in charge". That is going to be one of the hardest things to change. Getting those egos to accept that they are really not that important and that others could do the same job no matter how indispensable they think they are.

There's the old saying - "The graveyards are full of indispensable people." Not wishing ill on anyone but some at the WSR could do with being reminded of the meaning of this.

Difficult to be 100% certain due to the distance, but I think it's Andrew Barclay 1219.

It's all in preparation for the Santa trains they are hoping to run in December, Covid restrictions permitting.

True, but that charity doesn't necessarily need to be the membership body and the owner of the operating company. Also risk compensation must be borne in mind.

I have even more excellent news beyond the offer of the latest in wifi technology, it seems that the WSSRT goods shed can have all the internet bandwidth it needs. I took the WSRA phone number at the other end of the platform and put it into https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL The results suggest that the WSSRT wifi router ought to be running at between 60Mbs and 79Mbs to the outside world which in technical terms is as whizzy as it gets.

Whichever elected trustee now owns the IT portfolio will have a quick win.
