At a time when people are being put out of work there are much more pressing concerns than WIBN loco ideas dreamed up by folk who can spend all day on a forum and can afford to do so.

On a railway, as distinct from a train set, people are at least as important as the hardware.

Yes will look totally out of place next to all the Lynton and Barnstaple tank engines and NGG16s.

There's a half size Beddgelert in sore need of a major rebuild lurking at Fairbourne and I'm sure they'd appreciate any help to get this little beauty up and running again.

What with the replica Gowrie currently under construction and embryonic plans to recreate Moel Tryfan I'd suggest a lesson be drawn from the demise of Manchester United* concerning over-reaching .... most especially right now.

*The 2nd B17, not the kickball outfit!

You never know, if the Gowrie or Mountaineer III teams successfully complete their projects, they may be on the look-out for more locos to new-build (as did the Tornado team) ... Could 30854 point us to any details of the Moel Tryfan plan?

Send a big enough (but not as big as that needed for a full sixe one) cheque to Fairbourne and I'm sure they'd consider building a Gowrie!

Why don't we wait and see what it looks like when it's finished, and then see how useful it is on the F&WHR. Handsome is as handsome does!

In any event it's steam, so that has to be good.

In all honesty, it's gone a bit quiet since the Gowrie project got underway. I dunno if the folks behind Gowrie are the same who proposed resurrecting MT, but given the Hunslet design apparently shares components with Russell, I guess that's what tipped the scales. There's still a live Moel Tryfan Facebook site, but as per OP nowt AFAIK beyond an embryonic idea ..... realistically best rated as WIBN +1, at least for the time being. It'd probably be more surprising if no-one harboured an ambition to see the original NWNG Fairlie design again.

Edited to clarify which project's which

Just to counteract this utter shithousery, I'm going to grab something from the C2 Merch stall on their website. If CoTF is going to be upset by historical inaccuracies like Chinese built Soviet designed narrow gauge locomotives in the Welsh mountains, I dread to think the apoplectic response they'd have to the livery a certain Somerset based Peckett carries.

    Fair play to you.

I think it will be fantastic to see- and I have been following the project quite closely because I am quite fascinated by some of the engineering solutions that they have had to come up with to make the loco suitable to use- the regauging and narrowing of the frames in particular!

To take the 'it won't look right' thing to the extreme then you could argue that quite a number of the fleet don't belong (Mountaineer probably being the most 'oddball')

    Regards

    Chris

And t'is very much on my regular trawl list .... great to see major components on order (see link in @Steve B's post for details). I've edited my earlier post for clarity. I do check the MT Facebook page, every so often, for signs of life.

At a time when 1/3 of the FR's staff is being laid off and with that the stresses and pressures that this brings and in the run up to xmas, to complain about the Chinese loco is in pretty poor taste and monumentally tone deaf.

Finally, if the FR had only used 'authentic' locos and carriages, well good luck in running a service for the last 60 years with Prince, ME, LT, Simplex, Moelwyn and 16 carriages.

Thank goodness that no one on the railway was foolish enough to turn their nose up at the Hunslets, Alco, Garratts, NG15, diesels, new build locos and carriages for 'looking wrong' on the railway.

AIUI, the C2 is a discrete semi-detached project, with it's own team ..... which doesn't detract from @Monkey Magic's point one little bit. In fact, you'd have to add that, had such hidebound thinking prevailed, we'd have no WHR, as maintaining a realistic operation using Russell and (at best) a couple of 'Englands' and a very few authentic carriages scarcely constitutes a practical proposition.

I'd suggest CoTF reads the info on the website, it's a very interesting project which I've been following and privately funded.
Most important though is that they have a railway to run it on which sadly required staffing cuts to remain viable, assuming 2021 can resume some semblance of normal.

Mountaineer at least has some pedigree since 590 was a WHR locomotive even if its wheels were in different places. But that means nearly 70 years of ripping up the Barns, the L&B carriage, the Funkeys and everything else. Plenty of days through the year are dedicated to the pre-preservation eras so its not exactly full on disposal of history.

It was a joke aimed at the person who suggested it looks out of place. I know the owners of the C2 very well. Given the attention to detail they are putting in I have no doubt it will be a wonderful thing when finished.

No doubt about it. I'm looking forward to seeing it, riding behind it and getting it in front of my lens. I can't worry if someone else doesn't like it.
