I want to know why they call those figures in women's clothing shop windows mannequins. Shouldn't they be called womannequins? Or even personequinns? Or maybe we should just stick to 'dummies'?:Banhappy::Stop::)

Well... it is a French word originally from C15 Dutch. Same root and origins as Ramekin. Kin being a Dutch diminutive to indicate small. My Dutch is not great but it uses a lot of diminutives. ie biertje (lit 'small beer') Ik wil een biertje I would like a beer. Man does indeed refer to man, so it does mean literally 'little man'.

Fascinating though this diversion is, would it not be wise for these gender discussions to be moved to their own thread?

Breed with my ancient footwear. Bob I think you need to go and have a look round your yard, if it's not still there I'd sit down and have a stiff drink and wait for the insurance claim to land on your desk.

Mr M giving you misleading information, I'd watch him!!

No the thing is still with you, if not Reid's have sneaked in four rigs and transported it to a destination unknown, and on top of that they done it free of charge!!

We did plan on moving in late October but the B17 boys had booked the slot we wanted. Then pushed back to mid-November but that Mr Drakeford shut the borders.

Now planned for mid-January when the world recovers from the festivities, assuming of course that we aren't in another lockdown.

Anyone know how far the commissioning work on the signalling at corwen has progressed???

Haven't visited llangolen for a few years & last time I was there the ex weston rhyn box was sat in carrog yard. Seem to remember seeing some pics a while back of it all painted up looking quite smart.

There seems to have been some excellent progress with this project, there are regular updates on Facebook if you are a user of it.

The station will be operated by ground frames initially. The installation will be completed when the adjacent tracks are ballasted and tamped, probably February / March.
The refurbished window frames for the operating floor are currently being fitted, but it will be a few years until the box is commissioned.

The official opening date for Corwen is 28th May, which is the Friday before the bank holiday weekend. We will be selling tickets for the opening day in advance.
Work on renewing the waybeams on the Dee Bridge starts this coming Tuesday. It is expected to finish some time in January, to be followed by a track renewal job to a section of Berwyn tunnel.
The p/way team will then move up to Corwen to finish the ballasting, which in turn will allow s&t to connect the east end groundframe.
We have got the use of a professional tree cutting team for a week, which when we add our volunteers should open up the scenery even more.
One result of recent events is that we are now encouraging volunteers in our engineering and carriage and wagon departments, and welcome new additions to our volunteer workforce in all departments.

    Bob.

Bob, it might be just the way that you have phrased this or the way that I am reading it, but does this mean that you previously did not encourage volunteers in the engineering and c&w departments? That would be highly unusual on a heritage railway.

Apologies if I have misunderstood your message.

    Keith
