7802 & 7325 were withdrawn then at almost the same time following boiler issues.

The EMF Newsletter No 73 for January includes more details on the plans for 7802's repair. Two main items of note:
    • An order has been placed for the pattern making and casting of new replacement cylinders, with delivery of the castings expected around the end of February.
    • The current thinking is to get the loco re-certified for a full ten year ticket which may require additional boiler works done including a new set of tubes. The EMF are hopeful for a return to service before the end of the 2020 season.
7802 is just over 4 [edit, not 5] years into the present ticket so the second point makes sense, although it would potentially mean both locos going out of ticket together in ten years time.

I can't do maths at this time of night! Looking back, it entered service at the Manor 50 event in November 2015 so yes, somewhere over 4 years in ticket.

There were practical reasons why the SVR withdrew from main line steam operation back in 2005, and also financial and practical reasons why the loco owners withdrew her from main line operations at the same time, and these stand today, probably more so than then.

This doesn't restrict the engine, 13268, 2968 or 42968 - call it what you will - to Bridgnorth - Kidderminster. She has visited many other preserved lines in the past and we intend to do so in the future.

That's news to me but if you have any sightings of that, I'd be very interested. The only note I have of her possibly at Bradford was on 8/8/59 when she worked an 8.40 Bournemouth - Bradford Exchange, when she was seen at Bristol, Nr Kelston-on-Bath on the Mangotsfield line, and at Bromsgrove. It's unlikely that there wasn't an engine change before Bradford, though.

4150 March 2020 restoration update. The 2020 Newsletter, just received by email but not yet on the website, confirms the asbestos found at the end of September has been successfully removed (see picture in the update) with a certificate issued allowing work to be resumed.

I remember them well. Here's a much dirtier one on the remains of the M&GN circa 1964.

Amazing at this relatively late stage that they are still discovering hidden asbestos.

Posted here to avoid further thread drift in the '44901 off to a new home' thread where a couple of days ago, @Matt37401 responded "Yes I did think about dear old 3612, 1502, and 1509 when posting."

By coincidence, Patrick has updated the SVR Wiki 1501 page today with the following: "A Valve and Piston overhaul was completed in August 2020, only for a severe crack to be discovered in the right hand return crank. Fortunately, a replacement return crank was in store from its long scrapped sisters at Coventry Colliery." So 1502 and 1509 continue to serve a useful purpose, gone but certainly not forgotten!

7812's boiler also now tubed and needs just 30 copper stays before blanking off and hydraulic testing. Chassis work not far behind though covid restrictions have hampered the usual volunteer effort on the myriad of smaller component painting and refurbishment.
