The WSR have used 53808 extensively but then refused to pay for the overhaul.
The loco transferred to the Mid-Hants. The railway has promoted the loco since it's arrival.
The S&D Trust at Washford have been treated very poorly.

I fail to understand why you are concerned with what is actually the case. <BJ>

I would say the easily lead tend to be the ones who post on facebook, demanding people be thrown off the railway, for what, daring to disagree with the Chairman, people who believe falsehoods that turn out to be shown as false, yet still parrot the same mantra, tell me, who are the easily led?

Ah, feels like normal service on this thread is resumed. (And there was I thinking we could have an interesting discussion about use of flags and whether yellow flags will still be in use in 2062 ...)

Don't we usually get that information along with the notice of the next AGM, about eleven months later?

Let's hope the hoverbus doesn't run out of fuel in the middle of a roundabout because someone has forgotten to charge it up. Quick get some red batteries.

Looked at MHR website for the first time today. It certainly looks as though they have taken 53808 to their hearts, the video about S&D is very commendable.
Sorry but it makes WSR website look rather dull!

Nevermind, but as Mark Smith has now gone off the WSR plc board, that is but one individual who has always been hostile to the SDRT. When he was previously on the WSR plc board he said their 1991 lease wouldn't be renewed some years ago.

Too little too late so far as the WSR plc board is concerned in my opinion. All matters relating to the SDRT had to be signed off by the current Chairman of the WSR plc board. I've been copied into emails from JJP that make it quite clear that JJP wanted the SDRT 'out', and if Mark Smith is going to be the 'fall guy' over this, it simply won't wash.

Thing is though, who primed who? did Mark Smith, who clearly did not wish the SDRT to remain on site, find a willing ear in JJP, Or was it a meeting of minds, Might it be possible that JJP originally was not anti the SDRT, but his view was altered by Mark Smith ?and thus the agenda was set in motion,

You guys are like a dog with a bone. This endless speculation is totally pointless. Why not follow the example of the S&DRT and move on like grown ups instead of continiously banging on about the past. Name calling solves nothing and just creates further obstacles to the peace which is so desperately needed in West Somerset.

Just been listening to the radio news. It seems that a Somerset size iceburg is about to collide with South Georgia and create havoc with the wild life there. What is it about Somerset that seems to indicate chaos and confusion?:(

If there's one thing worse than the "continuous banging on", it's the suggestions that everything will be fine and dandy if we just ignore the past and pretend it never happened. "Oh, sorry, did I punch you in the face? Let's move on and not take any notice of it, it would only cause trouble."

Did I say that? You are, I suspect, deliberately misrepresenting my post to prolong the miseries of West Somerset. Sooner or later there will have to be a West Somerset Peace Accord, along the lines of the Northern Ireland Peace Accord. There were plenty in Northern Ireland who were bent on trying to prevent that ever happening just as there seem to be plenty like yourself in West Somerset who seem determined to ensure that the bitterness and aggression there continue unabated. Your approach is not the path to peace , reconsilliation and future prosperity. Are you a wrecker or a peace maker?

Fair comment. But reconciliation requires acknowledgement by wrongdoers of the wrongs they’ve done.

Amnesia is not a good foundation for future peace. All successful post-conflict societies are based on confronting and coming to terms with the sins of the past. It is also only possible if there is a repudiation of the ancien regime. It never happens when the old regime remains in power or positions of influence.

I tend to be sceptical of the current regime to lead a peaceful somerset based on their past actions. Getting rid of everyone you don't like or have a grudge against, and threatening the same against anyone who questions this approach is not really a sound basis for a way forward.

I don't see much by way of efforts at reconciliation from the PLC, just lots of 'we are the masters now.'

I wasn't aware of too much acknowledgement of wrong doing from either side of the Northern Ireland conflict. What it took was 1) a realisation that things could not go on forever as they were and 2) a lot of vision and very hard work on the part of the peace makers. Where are the peace makers in West Somerset? Clearly not on Nat Pres (and rightly so) but hopefully they exist..
