Certainly looking forward to seeing her on Saturday, my first and only encounter in 2020.

The situation for Saturday seems a bit confusing. If you look at the Clan Line website it shows the loco going via Oxford. If you click on the Belmond link it refers to the Surrey Hills.I'm told that on the Live Rail record site the train via Oxford has a class 67 on the front whereas Clan Line is shown as going to Shalford, which would make it a Surrey Hills tour.
The times for the 2 trains clash so Clan Line can't be doing both. Can anyone please confirm what's happening ?

Yes, but for Belmond not to bother updating their site is poor for the prestige (and prices) they claim!

Those who are going on it will know what is happening. Anyway it's all about the on-board cuisine and the ride. Exactly what passes by the window may be irrelevant...except for the steam and smoke!

A number of posts have been removed because of premature speculation and messages about the circumstances around the Saturday Belmond trip. Apologies that this comes over as rather cryptic but we are responding to an official request and would advise no discussion at this stage.

I disagree; I know many non-enthusiasts who choose their trips based in significant part on the routeing, not just to see wisps of steam! It's an unfortunate growing habit to dismiss lazy wrong information as acceptable because of the assumption that 'those who need to know will know'.

There's obviously some uncertainty. In an ideal world someone would pop up and say something like "there will be an announcement at about 3pm" but I guess everyone's rather busy at the moment ;-)

I don't think the punters on this trip would have complained, a longer journey with more time to sup the Champagne.

There seems to be some heavy censorship going on here - my (sympathetic) comment about C19 causing commercial fragility (for operations like this) has been removed - how was that controversial, off-topic or offensive, I wonder?

By now, my guess is that the people who were booked on the train that should have run TODAY will have been informed in the correct manner and from the correct source about the cancellation. Sometimes taking one thing at a time is a wise move.

Back at #166 some polite advice was given. Speaking personally it just baffles me why on earth individuals just don't take the hint and let things drop. Industry professionals read this thread.

The question should be, how did it get on the website and who told Railway Herald.

What has been said here that "industry professionals" shouldn't see? I don't see that speculation, without offence or defamation, should be forbidden, especially as most of it has been pretty much correct. Also, why is it assumed that those travelling today would also have been travelling tomorrow?

Is it now a secret as to what loco is hauling which train where on Saturday?

Any business wants to be able to convey details of change to its customers in an ordered and managed way . Sadly in a world of social media bad news travels very quickly and can present businesses with a problem when the phones starts melting to deal with now disgruntled punters who have heard second/third hand via a tweet, farcebook, insta , forum post instead of a message from the tour operator

Sometimes people need to learn that doing the right thing is not sharing bad news and letting the business share the information to their fare paying customers first

If someone learns that a loco has failed it's FTR exam are you suggesting that they should keep the information to themselves? That seems pretty unreasonable to me. If I was travelling on a steam charter I would want to know asap if the train had been cancelled. Also, what about the families and enthusiasts who enjoy going out to see steam charters and sometimes travel far and wide to witness them. Should we be expected to not tell them? <BJ>

The railway heritage industry has long ceased to be for enthusiasts and those who take pleasure in seeing preserved steam locomotives and stock at work and is now a hard-hearted business. No such business will take notice of those to whom it feels it has no business connection. Thus those of us who simply enjoy watching trains will continue to be the last to know.
If we are disappointed it has no bearing on such businesses and thus we must put up and shut up.
