That would be fine if you knew what pedant means.

I have to agree with you there John, very slick indeed.

I remember being parted from my money by Mark on the running trials at the GCR last September without realising it had gone.

Tongue in cheek , Mark would do very well in a less honest profession than the one he follows now.

    Good luck to the man.

Thanks! Only £832,000 to go! Best Mark

I'll try to but I run the local chippy and she's due through right in the middle of the lunch time session so unless she runs mega early or mega late I won't get to see her. This of course guarantees
snow on the ground and brilliant sunshine unless I can make it then the sun will go in and the snow will thaw in an instant.

I half think, if they don't do it already, that what with all the collective experience they must have built up already, they could turn a not unreasonable rate from consultancy to the other projects. It might seem mean spirited to charge, and not simply offer for free, but in my experience, if you did it for free, you would never be off the phone or the PC answering questions, and often that comes a poor second to some short but quality face to face time. And as a persuader to any potential clients, as I'm sure they must know but people often still don't consider at the time, the eventual cost of rectifying mistakes in the engineering/certification business can quite often be huge, and usually massively outweigh any payout for consultancy. And as pointed out, even if its just getting PR advice from the chairman must be worth something. Not sure what the charity rules are though about doing this sort of thing, are Trust members allowed to be paid themselves for work not directly related to their mission as it were.

If railways with decent engineering facilities and skilled staff can charge a going rate for contract work, why can't someone with proven PR and project management skills do the same? Just because it doesn't involve something tangible (such as a wheelset or boiler) doesn't mean that it hasn't any value.

    John.

Made it on to BBC World News this morning (I watched it here in Azerbaijan!) - sadly the footage shown was at Darlington on the test track.

7.00am today and BBC Radio Cambs gave out the times to see the loco between Peterborough & Biggleswade. Anyone intending to watch it pass through the county were reminded not to trespass on the railway and it was reported that NR had allowed thousands of people onto Darlington & York stations free of charge to see it, so hopefully, P'boro', Huntingdon, St Neots, Sandy and Bigglewade will follow suit.

It should come through Biggleswade at about 12.30 . I am going to Offord , just south of Huntingdon . Should be busy trackside .

These are the times shown on the UK steam site and sorry, I wasn't listening with full attention after the radio presenter passed Huntingdon with her times.

With an hour 45 minutes for non stop P'boro' - KX (88 miles) suggests plenty of time built in to make up any lost time earlier in the journey.

22A , I was thinking of going to Wood Walton , but don,t know what parking is like there . Any suggestions appreciated .

  16. There's a nice wide verge to the west of the line - but - it'll all be a bit snowy and crunchy so parking is likely to be "variable". If I can park OK, I'm planning to use the footpath that goes south up the hill.

I drove to the Toys R Us car park in P'boro' as did quite a few others. Walked up to the bridge to look down on the yard where it would be watering. It was approx 15 early and departed the yard at 11.40 instead of 11.55, but it was then held o/s P'boro' station presumably waiting for it's path.
The A1's train is 14 coaches with the support coach in maroon and at least the first five passenger coaches in blood & custard livery, very smart turn out.
For the watering there were 21 people stood round which beats the 20 I saw when we had a Merchant Navy stop here.

with apologies if this is in the wrong place or out of context

Irwell Press's excellent "book of" the A1's and A2's has a number of pictures of A1's in Apple Green livery including 60117 , 60122, 60134, a stunning side on of 60139 and 60142 plus others. In all cases number and leeter appear in line

Darlington seem to have had a phase of lining the tenders with the top of the lining well short of the top of the tender (rather odd)

We saw her, she was very late and we were very cold but it was worth it! If anyone has any good pictures to post my children would be very grateful, it was on the slowline and so close I couldn't get a picture!
