9Fs are not the biggest locos to run on BR by any length. You could turn them on a 60ft turntable, as at Bath Green Park, where as the large Pacifics such as Merchants, Duchesses and the various LNER ones needed a 65ft, if not a 70ft table to turn on.

Yes, I'm thinking of the longest Loco to visit the KWVR though... I'd say the 9F was the longest. City of Wells obviously managed to fit in the Oxenhope headshunt too, but there hasn't been a Duchess or Merchant Navy up the branch.
Having thought about it more, I wonder how the P2 will cope with things such as passing loops, which tend to have fairly sharp curves (Thinking of Damems Loop, which also has a curving approach from the south).

92134 has been turned on Pickering‘s 60 ft table. It has a shorter wheelbase than S15 825.

Is 825 running with the bogie tender? I guess the shorter wheelbase of the BR1 Tender will help a lot there...?

Duchess of Sutherland on Yeovil's 70' 'Table a few years ago. Picture from http://www.yeovilrailway.freeservers.com/130808.html website, hope it's OK to include this. If I recall correctly, a fencepost or something had to be removed as the buffers fouled it.

    The LMS Princess Royal's are a tad longer than the LMS Coronation's: by 9'' on the engine wheelbase ( 37'9'' to 37'0 0 ) and by 6'' across the entire wheelbase ( 74'4 1/4'' to 73'10 1/4'' ) from the LMS weight diagram. The Princess Royal's are wider as well ( 9' 0'' to 8' 11 3/8'' ).

Don’t they use an ‘outrigger’ for use at Barrow Hill? For stuff that’s bigger than the turntable like Peaks and Jubilee’s? It’s not something I’ve seen used in anger.

All had been converted to the A4 style front end by the time they were repainted into black in late 1941, according to Yeadon. As such, 2007 can only realistically carry LNER Green; the 'Doncaster P2' could carry either green or black.

So to answer @Richard Roper's question about the longest locos to run on the KWVR, the 9F is beaten by both Britannias and Sir Lamiel which have visited at some time over the years.

This was always a problem with turning locos which are a tight fit on turntables. At Bath, 9Fs and Bulleids would easily foul the buffers of any vehicle parked too close to the 60ft table there.

Not if your loco comfortably fits within the diameter of the table. The problem occurs with extreme overhangs especially in congested depots at busy times.

Sorry, I fear we have another P2 thread drift here

Only if the loco is longer than the turntable - not much problem of clashing if you turn an LNER Y8 on a 70ft turntable!
