With Tornado they were very clear that it is a new A1, the next in the series, not a replica, and it has worn several liveries. Does the same apply to the P2? If so I think 5944 is right, though I trust that his particular suggestion was in jest.

I'd agree with that thinking, as this new P2 will essentially more or less present what would have happened if the orginal P2s had been improved on instead of outright rebuilt, Prince of Wales will essentially be 'what if' creation. A what could have been made reality.

By that logic then you'd have a lot of more scope for liveries, as you'd be following the principle that if the originals were improved like this one then they'd most likely have carried so and so livery.

Personally I'd reckon it would look great in BR blue, or how about that BR purple I hear of! The possibilities...

The 'purple' was a nice colour - not so sure about the lining though. I have a model of 60028 Walter K. Whigham bearing same.

    Hopefully @S.A.C. Martin won't mind me posting this link;
    https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/i.../8843-identity-change-60028-walter-k-whigham/

Returning to the P2; I was terrified when I saw the grey paint on Tornado with www.a1steam.com on the tender and what I thought at that first point does not bear repeating here!

If the Doncaster P2 ever gets built, as it's a replica of 2001 then the two livery options apply.

Yeah it is a really odd purple isn't it, my brain sometimes having a tug of war as to whether it's more blue or purple, that weird middle ground.

Never heard of one being terrified by a livery before on this forum, that's a new one for me! Surely not all that different from the tradition of railways having their engine out in photographic grey is it?

Honestly I don't think the Doncaster P2 will ever materialize sadly, as much as I'd love to see a streamlined P2. Only hope we could ever have of seeing that is if the folks building Prince of Wales ever get the idea to build a second P2 themselves, but as they have no desire in building a second A1 I doubt they ever would consider it for the P2, even if there are a few fundamental differences.

It is a very odd colour. To me, 'purple' suggests more blue than red.

It wasn't the livery per se that was the issue for me and who needs photographic grey in these days of colour/panchromatic film? Plus I'm easily startled...

I agree, it's a pity regarding the Doncaster P2 but they did rather have their thunder stolen from them by the A1SLT, who had already proven they could build an engine. I have suggested in the past that Simon Martin should buy the frames from them and turn them into an A2/2...

Another thread descends in to a dreary discussion about which of the dreary BR liveries this loco should be painted.

Dreary BR black or dreary BR Brunswick green. Or perhaps the slightly less dreary BR blue, the least dreary of the BR repertoire of dreary colours.

What is the ongoing fantasy about painting everything BR dreary green? A livery that locos carried in the their closing days just before the railways were vandalised under a raft of BR measures bordering on corruption as much as outright economic vandalism.

Why do colours associated with such a terrible time in the railway history, arguably the worst time, evoke so much gushing and fawning sentimentality?

Are we so obsessed with misery and depression that we hark for more dreary times when things were painted dreary colours and running down a national service was a favourite pastime of government?

I think I’m teetering on the brink of a ban here, despite any value I may or may not add to conversations, but if the predominant subject matter is livery chat, show me round to the back of the shed imminently, il happy be put out of my misery.

Some people are obsessed with recreating what they remember from their youth, but that generation must be fading away quite fast now, and I don't think they are much in evidence at top level of A1SLT management. I suspect that 2007 will be turned out in the most attractive livery it can reasonably wear, so apple green it will be!

Now I like BR liveries, but in this case, I think there's only one livery which I think would suit this loco, and that is LNER lined green. It just looks absolutely right.

As it appears on my screen I certainly wouldn't call it purple. Possible royal blue, or perhaps cuprammonium blue.
