    The WSR Special Events Planning Team would like to announce the theme for next year's gala.

    The intention is to stage a BR STANDARDS event.

    Of the standard 5's 73096 is out of ticket , 73129 I presume still has tyre issues which may prevent it's appearance

    Standard 4's 75029 only runner at mo of the 4-6-0 variety and 76079 only runner. Of the tank variety 80151, 80104, 80098 and 80078 runners , not sure on progress of 80136

    no std 3's

    Standard 2's 78019

    wishful thinking would see 72010 and 82045 ready !

    Correct me if I am wroing, but does that mean that none of the home based WSR fleet will be eligible to run?

    If so, sounds expensive!

    (Is this event intended to mark the return to steam of 70000 I wonder?)

    Would imagine 80136, 80080, 80072 and 70000 should have returned to steam by then.

    But yes does certainly sound an expensive gala depending on how many engines will have to be brought in.

    I thought 73096's boiler ticket expired in 2012...? 73050 is also in ticket, 92212 could be back?

    80104 is currently undergoing overhaul work so not sure if she will be back next year, and 80078 will be out of action next year. 80002 is also running.

    What luck! I was planning on doing a tour of heritage steam railways in Southern England next year. Will certainly have to go to this event. :-D

    True, but my Grandad gave me a 3 1/2" gauge verion of 70000 and the first main line tour I went on was hauled by her. To me personally 70000 means a lot more.

    That doesn't mean that I won't try and go main line behind 70013 before its sibling is ready :smt003

    Hi Jeff,
    I always stay in Minehead as it gives plenty of choice for places to stay, it's close to the railway (morning photos of locos being prepared), pubs and food are readily available. Other locations along the line are fewer and often get booked up early and you can get a problem if you want something in the evening like a meal or a drink. Apart from Williton which is a small town/large village the rest of the places are small villages or hamlets. Minehead it is then!

    Minehead is probably the best for pubs & food, but at the other end at B.L. there's the Lethbridge Arms & a couple of others which are good pubs too.
