In sort of support of Matt's friend. There was/were a batch of [I think] 10 9Fs fitted with Westinghouse Air pumps, based at Tyne Dock/Consett for working the iron ore trains. Having said though, the pumps were used to operate the doors on the iron ore hoppers rather than the brakes.........

Plenty of air braked RMBs around, though why do you want to risk spilling your beer?

There already are! I wonder if he's ever actually had a conversation with Ian Riley, as he's determined to send every loco to Ian for overhaul. Probably all at the same time too...

Surely with your lottery win you will extend the headshunts to Cowes, Ventnor and Ryde respectively. You might have some change left over for restoring the Hayling Island line.

If I had enough (Several Euromillions Roll Overs Later) my question might be what railway 'experience' isnt currently recreated?

Clearly it must be something that was common/significant - and that people might want to have (No First Generation DMU toilets!)

Just as a 'for example' steam heat diesels

40106 has a working steam heat boiler, 47105 and 31162/5580 have also had working steam heat boilers in the past as well. Going back to 40106 Dad had a day out with it at the SVR in October and said it was rather strange to see it next to the water column with the bag in! I think 40135’s had a working boiler in it as well.

Unique experiences? How about a New Build F9?

The ultimate driver experience loco with accommodation for friends and relatives.

Things that were common but aren't there now.

    Parcels/newspaper trains with accommodation at 3am :)
The Somerset and Dorset - so we can really run a Pines Express behind a 9F.
    Milk trains.

If I won the euro millions (ha!) I think my usage of the money would be divided thus:
    1) 20-30 million to the stainmore chaps (I grew up in Kirkby Stephen, great grandfather was a guard for the NER/LNER)
    2) 10 Million for the Eden Valley Railway (I was there in 1995 when the first rumblings took place and have volunteered there in the past).
Hopefully that would be enough (with match funding etc) to reconnect Kirkby Stephen East and Appleby East.

The Ffestiniog rebuilt Talesin from less, so it wouldn't be a new build!

The frames and bogies (minus driving axle) survived at Eastleigh well into the 1950s I think, essentially as an internal use vehicle. The carriage portion still exists privately owned.

It might be harder to provide turntables at either end of any line it worked on, than build the thing. (I've always wondered about the routeing of The Bug Nine Elms >> Surbiton >> Nine Elms.) And who will play the part of the irascible gentleman in the Inverness cape? :D

It is in a garden and can be seen from a train on the Swanage. There is a youtube video that shows it.
