Hello Howard Not entirely seriously I was thinking of the baby sister! They go surprisingly well Needless to say they need to be in reasonable order and those up front need to know "the wrinkles"

Full regulator, drive on the reverser: Mr. Drummond's shade must be happy that his teaching has stuck!

Quite. Though there is no lack of power on a Urie S15 if driven appropriately. Wide open regulator simply strangles the Urie type. As Tom said the difference is the valves.

Interesting news this morning on wsr.org.uk regarding the possibility of an electric train service from BL.

Go-Op has “Previous” as the saying goes. They previously surfaced with a proposed service between Taunton/.Yeovil and Nuneaton via Westbury, Swindon and Oxford using 3 bi-mode units. And calling at yet to be re-opened stations

I've heard various things about what Go-Op have "previous" for, but never going beyond a waste of electrons (their last great project was old D-stock units on part of that route, which with a 60 mph limit on a 100mph railway suggested heroic unreality). Definitely for filing in the "I'll believe it if I see it" pile.

But WSR PLC has been talking to them. And that's according to a WSR (albeit "unofficial") website. The obvious question is Why.

Because they have the manners to respond to an approach and understand it? Who knows, but the existence of that discussion says nothing about the conclusion.

The news is ironic considering the addendum that had to be put out after the WSSRT meeting.

The article doesn't exactly hint at a 'No' from the WSR side of things though...

It doesn't exactly hint at a 'Yes' either ...

Reading between the lines, in essence it says "We have been approached. WSR policy is that we encourage trains from the National Network to Bishops Lydeard. We reminded the operator of the considerable safety, operational and technical challenges of doing so". That might not say 'No', but it doesn't exactly read as rolling out the red carpet either (and quite rightly in my view).

I suppose the WSR would be happy for any trains from the outside world to bring custom to Bishops Lydeard. Whether those trains would be commercially viable would be the TOC's problem, not the WSR's.

It seems that once again folk are being overly keen to pick over a WSR statement to find something to gripe about. Not overly surprising given recent history, but nonetheless, I really don't think there's anything to see here. Apart from the other company mentioned that is, which may or may not prove to be interesting...

It's entirely neutral - which strikes me as entirely reasonable. If it's a goer (unlikely given Go-Op's track record, but that's for a different thread), WSR will want to be involved. If not, then no harm done.
