Another great effort by the P Way gang, 6 panels of track replaced over the last few weeks. Also Moorbarrow’s tank is coming in with the build up of undercoat. In the background work on GWR 216 also continues.

a happy new year to all on NatPres, keep watching as there will be a few interesting updates with much to look forward to in 2021.

    regards

    Matt

Over the last 2 days I have signed up to the gwili railway preservation society and the tvr 28 grand slam appeal, £40 a month for 25 months. The awesome work the railway has achieved at a time of a global pandemic has been a pleasure to follow! I look forward to tvr 28 steaming into a developed abergwili junction! Thanks for your great work everyone involved.

    Update

the relay is now finished and this is the view ahead. Photo M Whittall

In the shed GWR 216 is having it’s roof repainted and Moorbarrow’ s tank is continuing to receive filler and paint.

work at Bronwydd had focussed on the new crane with oil leaks to find and general recommissioning.

Keep watching as we have a couple of loco announcements coming up, there might be a few raised eyebrows shall we say....

    regards

    Matt

Nice to see the progress continue, Is there a reason for the yellow rail chairs in the photo of the relay ?

    Afternoon,

I was looking at Manchester and milford number one and it reminds me of 2890 'douglas' a rebuilt austerity on the East Lancashire railway. The thought occurred to me could you convert an austerity like 3829 to a tender engine which looks like a manchester milford loco? If so it would be ideal for an expanded railway?

    Tom.

    Hi Tom

nice idea and it has been suggested! The two Austerities we have (Haulwen and 3829) both have strong South Wales links so in all honesty they would be restored in original form.

Water capacity isn’t such an issue for us with the water tower in the middle of the line, and accessible in either direction. It may be different when we get beyond Conwil.

    regards

    Matt

well 3829 doesn’t have a name yet so “it” could be a male or female name....

In defence of Douglas, I rather enjoyed crewing her during the year we had her at the GCRN. All the good bits of an austerity, but a slightly roomier cab and a slightly different look, plus extra water capacity (when you're doing a 20 mile round trip in winter suddenly an Austerity water tank doesn't leave you with an awful lot of wiggle room) - what's not to like!
(Disclaimer, I'm not saying we should convert every other Austerity. I'm just saying that I don't object to the one which has already been converted and would not object to another one being done if it were done well!)

I know Conwil is a way off, but didn't the station originally have a water tower at the Carmarthen end of the down platform ? Hopefully it could be reinstated which would solve any potential water problems.

the station had a GWR water crane on the down platform (north end) and a water tank (similar to the one we have at Bronwydd Arms) on the up platform (south end). There was a water supply tank just north of the station.
