Seeing the Supporters have had the very good news, I can reveal what we have achieved during the lock-down to others monitoring our progress....
There are Spokes and Tyres available for sponsorship - but we had to make the wheel with all the spokes - just attached IOUs to them!!!
Just in case anyone gets the wrong idea - the driving wheelsets behind the 'crew' are not ours - far too small!
Full set of NDT and Material data sheets have been compiled by CMS Cepcor, our Contractors in Coalville, who I can really recommend.

If matters are being sorted on the GCR(N) front as well, hopefully volunteers will be let back into Ruddington soon to progress things further, as I assume the front bogie parts are now in a state to be fully assembled....

Hi Johann, well the answer on bogie assembly is no, not yet. We have to get the materials for the bearing blocks ordered etc.... The Bearing Design is done and ready to go...
Driving wheels are in the process of design review - we are looking at the balance weight sizes. The trailing wheels are easy, but the calculations to balance out the effects of the cranks and internal motion are still being done - held up by lack of details being available for the 'Big Ends'

I was discussing this with a friend last night and we couldn't make our minds up- have the tyres been profiled or have they yet to be machined? To my eye the tyres look very thick and the flanges look very small, but then again I'm more used to looking at 1/76 scale wheels than the full size articles.

    Hi J Rob't
I believe those bogie wheel tyres are new and to the correct profile. So there is plenty of thickness to re profile as they get worn in use!

It looks as though the tyres have been turned to profile before being shrunk onto the wheel centres, judging by the colour of the steel. They do look good, though.

Not quite. The fact that they are thick means yo have several re-turnings available before you need new tyres. But how far you go between each re-turning depends to a large degree on the quality of the permanent way you are running on. More than one railway in the last decade or so has suddenly found itself eating through tyres at an alarming rate.

The tyres on the new wheelsets for the bogie for 567 have a deep outer 'sip' or lip, just as the tyres on the original locomotive did. If you consult photographs of the original locomotive, you will note very similar appearance. The tyres themselves are of a conventional radial thickness.

Standard Tyre thickness is 3" .... that is the new distance from the outside of the wheel casting nom 30" Dia to the running profile gauge point 36" Dia on the outside of the tyre.

Suggest you add diameter after outside in both cases. Easier to understand.

When you look at the photograph, you can see the difference clearly between the inside face on the far wheel and the outside face of the near wheel - it is the shiny machined part of the wheel casting.
