I should add that if you see a very high resolution copy of the above image, it is clear that the two darker ceiling panels have been painted, why and when is not clear. As there are a variety of images showing different ceiling details, it is possible that various options were being considered.
The photographs were not used as the sole source in deciding how the ceiling should be finished.

Is the Beavertail going to be staying in Margate as part of One:One Collection or is the intention to have the carriage running at the GCR or another line?

Looking forward to seeing the grand unveiling as I'm sure it's going to look stunning.

Beavertail is all over this months SR.

And looks bloody fantastic, a testament to the skills of those who have restored it!

According to SR available for hire to lines, albeit when things calm down a bit.

12 pages on one item of rolling stock must be a record for Steam Railway.....
Certainly deserves all of that space though!

It's been a team effort but I gladly will take the credit for recreating that end and a lot of the interior. With the expedition of fitting the floorboards, if it's made of wood then I probably designed it, made it and fitted it.

    Enjoy it.

Nice one @Sawdust! Well done to yourself and all those involved with recreating such a masterpiece. Wow what a cracker! Being 6ft odd would I be able to fit at the observation end? ;):) Does anyone entering have to take their shoes off now? ;)

    Not a chance lol.
I should clarify, it wasn't my team but Gordon Maslin's team.

Steam Railway dropped through the letterbox during lunch break, and ...

... WOW!!! That is absolutely stunning. Imagine what it must have looked like on the end of a matching rake with an A4 in the full trim as well. The LNER at its best.

Huge congratulations to the team that did this, every one of them can be rightfully proud of recreating this masterpiece. Also not forgetting Jeremy Hoskins and the Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust whose support made it possible.

The preservation movement has achieved some inspiring things over the decades. In terms of rolling stock this is up there with the best.

    Regards,

    Dan

Simply stunning. In many cases it will make photographing the rear of the train more worthwhile than the front. Just get it behind an A4.

I think the biggest credit has to go to Gordon, it was his persistence that got it started. I remember it was Gordon who put his foot down at one project meeting about the grade of stainless steel to use. The one initially chosen was deemed not shiny enough!

It does indeed, really interesting story to read in some depth, albeit I suspect the scale of the piece also reflects the desperation of SR to fill their pages at the moment.

OK if you havn't built the intermediate coaches, which coaches are you going to nick and repaint as a stop gap?

Fantastic looking vehicle though, well done.
