I think it was a tanker, but arrived with us as a flat deck. It has a ten feet wheelbase.

So, I can now confirm that the vehicles are indeed for us.
They landed this morning and are stood in our area at Quorn.
The complete tank is B749677 Diagram 1/305 built to Lot 2429 my sources state built 1952 at Ashford although others claim 1954. This will join the other tanks, as it stands we are considering restoring it into Trafic Services Ltd Black livery as number 500817
The frame is Shell Mex and BP Ltd tank chassis 6463 and will receive a Shockvan body but we shall leave it as that for the moment.

Lovely blog post. I know the previous owner in the Fens and I know he'd be really pleased see how well Madge is looking now. The family own an Aveling steam roller which is edging closer to the end of an overhaul; I'll have to see if I can persuade Jamie to bring it to a GCR Easter rally one of these years for a photo opportunity next to Madge!

I hadn't realised that your Scarab was part of the Woods/Upson "Team Scammell" from Chappel & Wakes Colne. Our presservation group had fairly close links with them in the late 70's and 80's and I can even remember a couple of "days out" helping them with their restoration work. They had a varied "fleet" over those years and the main one in the late 70's/early 80's was a GWR Mechanical Horse, seen here at Felixstowe in May 1981...

    81-345a.JPG

When we finally obtained Museum premises, they even helped us move some items from various storage locations, but, by then (1988) they were tending to use this Townsman....

    88-337a.JPG

The pile of wreckage on the trailer is a Fordson fire appliance, which is now fully restored and has been seen at rallies in the past. We had deemed it surplus to requirements, as was the Scammell trailer it was sitting on. A further trailer and a Scarab, CPV 407 (ex Ipswich Dock Commission) also passed to "Team Scammell" and that now lives somewhere in Yorkshire pretending to be an ex BR vehicle when their vehicle collection was dispersed after Dave Woods' death..

That Townsman is lovely, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one so good to know one survives.

It was actually put on loan to our museum once we officially opened to the public and remained on display there until the mid 1990's until pressure on space meant it was returned to its owner(s).
A quick search on the internet seems to indicate it is now owned by Colchester Institute, so it is still in this general area.

Thank you! Our updates will get back to strength in the fullness of time. At the moment we are only allowed to carry out maintenance to the fleet to allow them to be used once the railway is open.

Unfortunately, as rloades states above we are only authorised to carry out essential maintenance in preparation for the railway to begin running trains.
Fingers crossed normal service will resume on the 12th April.
