Can anyone confirm what Railway Heritage centres exist in Crewe, and what differentiates them? According to 18EL there appear to be three main centres:

Locomotive Storage Ltd, Crewe Diesel Depot, off Nantwich Road

Is this the same organisation that has a facility in Margate? Are they purely in the business of providing storage, or is this also a restoration/maintenance facility? And a base for mainline operation? There appear to be a number of current main line locos based there.

London and North Western Railway Company Ltd, t/a Arriva Traincare, Crewe Carriage Works, off Weston Road

18EL states "Mainline and Preserved Vehicles usually present". What is the purpose of this site? Is it primarily a heritage/leisure operation?

    Crewe Heritage Centre, Vernon Way

Presumably this is what used to be "The Railway Age"

Any clarifications will be gratefully received.

Crewe Diesel Depot - home to Locomotive Services Limited workshops and main base, aka Jeremy Hosking's Collection of locomotives and carriages.
Crewe Carriage Works, LNWR/Arriva Traincare - workshops run by Arriva, contract work for mainline TOC's mainly
Crewe Heritage Centre - indeed used to be The Railway Age, tourist attraction, with some workshop space. Formerly LNWR Heritage based here, but when bought out by Hosking moving to Crewe Diesel Depot, only site open to the public - https://www.crewehc.co.uk

Thanks for this. According to 18EL the LSL site has a better collection than the NRM!

So does the heritage center still have a volunteer contingent doing restorations or is it simply a display of Mr Hoskins rolling stock / locomotives

If you are referring to Crewe Heritage centre it has nothing to do with Mr Hoskings

The Crewe Heritage Centre of course is home to the original APT prototype, the genesis of all our modern tilting trains. I always make sure to look out for it on the left hand side of the train when leaving Crewe northwards up the WCML.

Miniature railway, exhibition hall, two signal boxes (Crewe North Jct and Exeter West) which often run demonstrations with 'simulated' train movements, APT usually has carriages open.
