Appropriate really considering some of the things that have been claimed of late. As someone said about the Wu Tang Clan's ODB you could never be certain 'if his behaviour was the result of serious drug problems or genuine mental instability.'

 

For some reason NatPres has failed to send me any notification from this thread for some while, so I was somewhat shocked to see just how many unread pages there were when I 'dropped in' just now. But honestly....sorry folks, but - what a load of dribble - is there nothing better to talk about regarding the S&DRT? Having read (or ignored) so many ridiculous messages, I need a stiff drink!

For a start, does anyone know why the GF at Washford has been taken out-of-use by the WSR, so there is currently no access to the sidings without special authority?

 

Assumptions are dangerous things, ....... who said it was WSR ?

 

Because it belongs to the WSR and they are the ones who control the signalling infrastructure.

 

I suggest you check your facts before making such assertions.........

 

I'm not sure about you, but as a volunteer I read the WSR Weekly Engineering Notices. I was also an S&T volunteer at the time when the GF was installed originally.

 

What is the GF?

It's the "Go faster" board. Situated where trains are wont to be going slowly (such as at the end of long hills, as at Washford) to remind drivers of the need to hurry along so as to maintain the timetable.

Why would a driver need to see it?

 

That may well be the case, many people read the same information but do not make a similar mistake in reaching the wrong conclusion.
When WSR publish " Washford Ground frame is currently secured out of use and access is not available to/from Washford SDRT Sidings " it does not signify that WSR either owns or had locked the Ground Frame but simply noted and advised the fact of that situation.

 

Does that intermediate need boxes either side of Washford to be manned? I thought the key release from the cabinet was only operated from one box while they were in telephone contact

 

Sorry, but I fail to understand why you think there is a wrong conclusion here. I'd be delighted to learn what you think is the 'right answer' please.

As I have stated, the GF was provided and installed by the WSR many, many years ago. It forms part of the WSR's signalling infrastructure and they control its use. It may be the case that perhaps the S&DRT have asked for it to be secured out-of-use for some reason, but they neither have ownership of it nor the authority to do that themselves. Having been both a WSR S&T volunteer and a long-standing 'Signalling Steward' (and occasional Committee member) for the S&DRT, I do have the relevant background knowledge to be clear on those issues.

In any case, for the S&DRT to do so might well be considered against the spirit of the proposed lease extension for the WSR to have ongoing use of the sidings for PW purposes

 

This could be to stop wagons being moved out to block the main line as a safety. As one might roll away specially if they are not paying as much attention as they are focusing on moving out. Or it is more trouble starting up

 

I thought GF was was a sign but I’ve had explained to me it is the point sticks in the picture is Ground frame. Not go faster sign
