Clearly had this happened two years ago then nobody would have thought it significant, it could simply be a maintenance issue but in the current climate it suddenly seems significant.

You right it is very troubling. Let’s hope it all gets on ok. There was probably less people around due to covid to see who locked it. But let’s hope it’s to save an accident

All the evidence indicates that the ground frame is part of the railway and belongs to the PLC, yet someone claims that this is a false conclusion. That raises some questions. Does the ground frame really not belong to the PLC? If so, how did that come about? Or, if does belong to the PLC, why suggest otherwise? There is an odour of rat.

They may have sold some bits if there was a lot of money in it but to sell the point levers would be silly

    I have a question:

Does the groundframe being locked prevent the S&DRT from being able to remove things from Washford for their move the MHR?

If not, then who does the inability to access the yard at Washford impinge upon?

If no one needs to access the yard then does it matter if the GF is locked?

I said this would happen I got the idea as a neighbour at our old house used to park in front my drive because I stopped let him use it at weekends then I was late for work. It’s the same thing may happen when people get upset with each other

No you didn't. And that isn't what I am asking.

The question I am asking is a serious twofold one. If the answer to the first question is yes, then there are potentially serious implications, if the answer to the second is no one then it is just 'noise' and can be ignored. Which reminds me...

Does the ground frame control movements from the running line to the yard,? Then its possibly ok to mark it out of use, if there are not intended to be any movements between the yard and running line, or if there is some fault with the signalling, That means it impacts on the safety of the railway, then there is no option but to place it out of use.
If though, its also used to effect shunting with in the yard, then clearly that's another question as the trust will need to shunt the items it intends to relocate, so they can be loaded up for road transport out of the WSR.

I struggle with the notion that any Ground Frame, on a running line and released by, or with the permission, of the signallers of the railway could not be the railway's property and responsibility. If Washford is otherwise the West Somerset is weirder than I had supposed.

I was going to write something, but really this is all getting too weird, and 2+2 is being made to sum to about 15,000. I agree with @Dunfanaghy Road

Most preserved (Not all!) railways have various sidings which if connected to the running line are protected by a ground frame , trap points leading out of the siding
and most importantly a Facing point lock.
The GF has an Annettes lock usually on the FPL Blue lever, this is released by the key token carried through the section, in the case of Washford , the section is between Blue Anchor and Williton.
A train wishing to pick up or set down stops clear of the points, the key token is inserted into the Annettes lock, turned 180 degrees to the right. This unlocks the FPL Blue lever releasing the black points lever, allowing shunting to take place, Once shunting is complete the points are secured in the normal position and the ground frame is locked allowing the train to proceed through the section.

Well I always thought it was ok to ask a silly question (instead of doing a silly action). But this thread has proved over the last couple of days you cant ask any question nowadays, as you will get a rediculous response back no matter how sensible your question is...
