If Meldon quarry starts producing aggregate again, i would imagine that will be it for any heritage railway on the site is there room for an active opperation and preserved stock with in the same site?

I’d say this is the end of Dartmoor as a heritage line. A GWR service and potential ballast operations with Network Rail controlling the line seems to be the way forward.

Have to agree, Whilst its good to see Oakhampton back on the network, I still think it makes better sence if the Present Waterloo to Exeter service was the one extended to cover Oakhampton, with connections for Exmouth at Exeter central .

From the Dartmoor Railway supporters association website stocklist
    https://www.dartmoor-railway-sa.org/stock
Aggregate Industries owns a small class 08 diesel shunter, which may be used in the potential ballast operation, Dartmoor Railway supporters association owns a couple of heritage coaches RDB 975046 (Lab 11) S13436 (FK) which were recently vandalised and being restored, a guards van and maybe some other wagons. These are not for sale and will remain, maybe running occasionally with the diesel shunter?.

The potentially useful DB 977335 4TC converted Mk1 carriage with a generator listed as owned by BARS is not on the sales list, so might have been sold already or staying at Dartmoor or Weardale?.

I would suggest that the future for them is pretty bleak, because they are being offered for sale at a time when pretty much all potential buyers are tightening their belts and not wishing to take on expansive and expensive new projects. In those circumstances, hard to imagine who might want to take on a unit that is likely to require a sizeable six figure sum spent on it before long.

The reopening of the Okehampton line is part of the Exeter metro system. It is not being reopened primarily to allow access to London.

it is also not a precursor to the reopening of the line through to Plymouth.

Extending the London trains would unnecessarily pass on any delayed and disruption on the London service to the Okehampton line.

Not to mention that serving the Okehampton branch will be very low in priority for an operator based in London, with fleet maintained in Salisbury, which runs more trains per day to Shepperton than it’d run to Okehampton in a month.

But SWR will be happy to sell tickets to Okehampton with a change to a GWR train at Exeter.

It's likely to be something like that. I'd imagine it'll be a cross-Exeter type service or one that terminates in the city.

I believe that may be the plan in order to avoid tying up platform, but we shall see.

Is the present Barnstable service also an Exmouth destination? if so, can the 2 hourly Oakhampton service be dove tailed in ? how frequent is the Barnstable to Exmouth service? the addition of the extra timetabled services might make it hard to run Oakhampton services beyond Exeter central . unless one of the others is cut back to provide a path for it such as terminating some Exmouth's at St David's

At the moment, it's all speculation. No agreed timetable atm.

The present (non-COVID) timetable is half-hourly Paignton to Exmouth. The Barnstaple’s turn around at St James’s Park (I believe running empty from Central).
