Photos from Grateley, plus ones of Tangmere at Taplow and Grateley, up now at
    http://5944.fotopic.net/c1653659.html

I also went to a couple of other places but haven't uploaded the photos. Mottisfont & Dunbridge was a mistake - bowled by a unit in the platform! And the shot near Winchester was pretty poor, but didn't have much time to find anywhere else. Should've gone for quality rather than quantity. Oh well.

No worries, and much thanks for the perspective from the drivers seat - sounds like she performs as good as she looks :)

Very much so, very smooth ride for a steam loco and free running as well. No doubt all those little roller bearings underneath her do their job.

What other locos have you driven on the mainline and how does Tornado compare performance wise?

Left Victoria essentially bang on time - platforms heaving, flashes going off everywhere. I've a few moody pics from several platforms away that I'll upload one of these days. I'm listening for Croydon - due any minute... (I've not yet mastered the art of even moody pics of fast moving trains in the dark so I'm staying home for this one!)

Edit - through Croydon bang on time!

Quite a few 34016, 34027, 34067, 35005, 35028, 4472, 60009, 60019, 6024, 73096, 45407 come to mind. Fired to more, plus all those above. Not had a chance to get on any of the big LMS loco's yet though, unfortunetly. Comparing loco's is tricky, they were all built for a job depending what was required. So no loco seems to be master of everything. However you can see how they were developed over the years. An A3 to an A4 then to A1, via A2 of course, but not been on Blue Peter. You can also see the family likeness of the Eastern loco's to Bullied's thoughts of his own loco's. But back to the question alot depends on how a loco is looked after and how well they were restored or overhauled. Tornado is brand new, and shows it. Tip top machince and will always look forward to working on her. However I am a little biased, 35028 Clan Line for me, its like a Rolls Royce. But having said that, I like them all. All of us look forward to getting on them and getting to know the owners and support crews. Made many new friends including the 6024 boys, he said bitting his lip!

Well I and the family had a tour of the London area today seeing 34067, 35028 and 60163 twice each. Very nice day. This is our shots of Tornado:

Seen in glorious sun at Lyne and in the evening at Clapham Junc.

On time at Redhill tonight. Great steam effects in the cold night air.

Sir Nigel Gresley attracted about 20 people when it came through about the same time around three months ago. Tonight there were 100+

Bang on time at Streatham Common though stopped by the almost inevitable red light on the spur up to Streatham - got away perfectly cleanly with a very confident start - looked and sounded excellent complete with chime whistle. Congratulations to the A1 society on a wonderful job - now if I can just win the lottery I might bankroll................

Sorry for any confusion - as John pointed out the caption ended up above the picture and my comment below it. But just to clarify, it was taken from behind the white line on Wandsworth Town platform - the line is curving a bit there and gives a bit of width, which is specifically why I chose that spot!

    Cheers,
    Jon

I managed to get out and see Tangmere and Tornado today - through an eyepiece of course!

The resultant video's are on Youtube now. If you'd like to view them please see below, the links are in my signature.

Great to see 60163 for the first time today. A huge Well Done to the team =D>
Sounds great too, if only Joe Public would stop discussing Auntie Jessie's latest ailments etc long enough to enjoy the sound as well as the sights & smell of working steam on the main line......
