It doesn't actually say it'll be in steam (although that's usually a reasonable assumption with gala guest loco announcements!) perhaps just static display?...

either that, or its been given an extension on its ticket by the inspector, much depends on the actual condition of the boiler,

My money is still on an April fool accidentally released a bit early, hence why it was deleted so quickly.

6435 took part in this weekend's training days, with a variety of crews getting to grips with a very "Western" piece of kit.

    SURPRISE NEWS!
Yesterday, a few volunteers and members of staff were given a sneak glimpse of a "mystery" locomotive which has been offered on loan to the railway from an anonymous benefactor!
The loco, stored at an (as yet) undisclosed location has been hidden away from public view until recently, when tree clearance operations took place.
The 0-6-0 tank has not yet been formally identified, as, for some unknown reason, it has had all of its windows and openings in the cab boarded up, then cocooned in a dark brown substance. There is no evidence of its maker.
One member of MHR's Loco Dept commented "Blimey, it's almost a double of our own tank 'Dave' (the one which sometimes masquerades as 'Thomas')..".
Before any assessment can be made of the loco's condition, the brown substance needs to be completely removed, so specialists from Dunfanaghy Rd. have been called in to help. The Railway's Archivist wonders if the graffiti (the smokebox door has been daubed in white paint, as has the number "1" on the side tank) might give a clue that the loco is actually "M and S Number 1", acquired by the long-lost Medstead and Selborne Light Railway Co. for use on a line which was, in fact, never built.
One joker thought that it might have come from Cadbury's..!
Already, there are debates taking place as to what livery the loco should have, and "where will it be based?" Use as a station pilot for Medstead might be an appropriate home for it?
    Interesting times...

That brown stuff, is i believe March mallow, improoved engine Umber, but who ever painted it, looks to lave layered it cake like, using a Trough, The interim boiler exam has just come in, ITS to quote him, about as useful as a chocolate tea pot, and the sides are as thin as After 8 mints,, and if you attempt to steam it, you would end with a lot of brown sticky stuff.

Will has posted Part 3 of "In The Loop".
Seems that he's catering to both those who enjoy and those who hate music.
Musical accompaniment at the start, music free at the end.

And, we're back atop the hill & boy did it feel good!!! :) :) :)

Was just a small gathering of hardy souls, desperate to get out the house & away from 'er in doors, and well within the Gov's guidelines. ;)

And so it was time to get reaquainted with the Gunpowder Van.

So we set to moving the GPV away from the buffferstop & relocating the scaffold tower to country end & over the 4' - never mind having to find a drill with enough guts to get through the varying grades of wood!

The hoop was fitted in sections, 1st to the bodyside & then to the roof using temporary bolts with longer threads, so as to give us a fighting chance of bringing in the roof, given the gap between it & the bodyside was well over an inch before we started!

we also got the Londo end one fitted to the bodyside, not the roof as we were running out of bolts & washers, so need to reform the roof at that end as well & only have two rachet straps available (donations of more would be most welcome. :))

Whilst we were doing the roof hoops, plans were also drawn up as to how the timber frames on the insides of the doors are going to be installed - who said men can't multitask?......... o_O

So once the country end roof hoop was in place, the rachet straps along with lumps of timber at key points were deployed to hopefully bring the roof somewhere back into true - there was an almost instant effect of this as the bolts were tightened on the roof hoop! :) :)

After that it was a case of finding enough lengths of 3x2 in hardwood, as according to 'im in charge, we have loads of it....... I think he needs to go to Specsavers, as we have enough in softwood & naff all in hardwood!!

Then it was a case of attending to some smaller jobs before heading home knackered, but well happy to face 'er indoors again! :(

A couple of pics (not mine) showing what looks like small progress, but are major steps forward!

The country end roof hoop in situ with temporary bolts.

    IMG_20210403_135417_886 (1).jpg
The lumps of wood doing their job - given how bowed it was on the edge before this, is chalk & cheese - hopefully we won't need a panel beater next week........
