If the website is lagging the progress of the loco, I’d argue they have their priorities on point.

That would be a fair comment if they were neglecting the website altogether, although that would still be a poor way to maintain their public image for bringing in money. But in this case they are publishing news while neglecting a badly out of date statement near the top of the very same web page.

Excellent! Thanks for your positive comment. I volunteer you to do the website then? Plenty of better things to do!

My point is that the website has been updated with recent news but without correcting the out-of-date content. How much longer would that have taken?

Edit: FWIW I have a small soft spot for that loco, having ridden behind and photographed it one night in 1968. I did send one of my pictures to the people who are overhauling it.

Rather than whinge on a forum about a tiny inconsistency, why not contact the website or even offer to update it yourself?

As you're obviously an experienced Web editor who would always remember to do everything, I'm sure they'd appreciate your skills.

I am the sole editor of the Watkinson Trust 5025 blog and have just registered to reply to this post. Yes it does say an earlier completion date in the Trust introduction, however if you continue reading, below the next paragraph, it has an update in italics saying that owing to serious delays with the boiler the completion date will be 2020. It then has a further update saying that owing to the lockdown the completion is now summer 2021. I felt that this would reflect the time taken and reasons why, better than just altering the original text. I have added a (see edit) after the 2019 date so that no one else misses it.

I did read the whole item and therefore commented on the inconsistency.

Absolutely lovely! Nice to see the LMS smokebox numberplate too - I love the BR liveries, but it'll be refreshing to see a Black 'un back in LMS livery.

Ah! Not had the chance to see 5428 since its last overhaul, yet. Last time I saw it, it was as 45428.

There were such things, numbered from 5552 upwards. Many enginemen still referred to the Jubilees as 'Red 'uns' as late as 1968, although 'a 5X' was more common. Black Fives were always 'Black 'uns', around Liverpool at least.

Out of interest, is that a cut-out in the main steampipe cover of 5025, or is something standing on the running plate in front of it? If it's a cut-out, what's it for?

What a great idea they had apparently welding a centre section into the chimney to replicate the taller original early Black 5 chimney. It gives the loco quite a different look.
