How long was Britannia based on the NVR?

 

I really can't remember - too long ago. Perhaps someone else on here will know.

 

I believe it arrived in 1980 and left when sold to Pete Waterman in 2000.

 

Didn’t it leave before that when it went mainline? Wasn’t it overhauled at Carnforth?

 

I believe that once overhauled it was usually at NVR when not out on the mainline. But that is before my time, so only going by information from others...

 

All my early trani shots on the NVR are marked 1977 /81 ,so 1980 about right. You won't get a photo like this again (attached.)!

 

Whereabouts was that taken?

 

Ferry Meadows/Overton, heading west I think. Rail Mail etc in the foreground now, and 100' trees behind the platform!

I moved away from the area some years ago, so have completely lost touch with the latest goings-on there.

Very good news indeed. Just a pity that AFAIK individual owning groups weren't within the remit of the recovery fund. There's an awful lot out there who could do with an injection of capital just now.

 

True enough, although the paramount importance of having a thriving railway on which to individually own stuff really can't be overstated.

 

I'm struck by the contrast between the Government's left and right hands; one says 'this is part of our heritage and should be kept and helped', and the other says 'you can't mine material you need to operate'. (Yes, I know, a bit off-topic.. sorry.)

I agree. If a host railway folds, there's nowhere for the resident groups to operate thier stuff.

 

Other sources of COVID emergency funding are available. It depends on how the loco owning group is set up (charity etc)
