I think there were a couple of things that endeared Bert to the enthusiast fraternity. Firstly was his skill as a driver, always had a good run of Bert was up front, although he insisted in the talks he gave post retirement that he wasn’t a speed merchant. He was also a true gentleman, I chatted to him a few times at Nine Elms and Waterloo and he never treated us as oddballs as some footplatemen did, I suppose that was because he was an enthusiast himself. One thing I remember about him was his personal appearance, always seemed to have clean overalls and polished shoes.

Robert Smith certainly looked like you’d imagine him to look, whether that was for the special occasion or all the time I have no idea.

Dan Cruikshank and family travelled on a Swanage Railway Santa Special around 3 or 4 years ago.
Also, several local BBC TV 'celebrities' have visited SR Santa Specials over the years including former South Today presenter Roger Finn and his family.

Professor Stephen Hawking is the most famous person that I have seen at the North Norfolk, as a casual visitor and not "booked" for any sort of filming/opening etc.

We chose not to approach, as these folks must have precious little time to themselves to enjoy an attraction like the rest of us can.

That is good to know, I think I would be very disappointed if he didn't go out wearing eyeliner. If you google Robert Smith cure wife, a photo of them comes up with a Pullman car in the background.

Stephen Hawking has also visited Swanage Railway.

    Do you include during filming?

If so Harry Styles was on the Swanage Railway back in 2017 being directed by Christopher Nolan and filmed Hoyte Van Hoytema.

Anneka Rice once made a flying (literally) visit to Didcot Railway Centre in one episode of Treasure Hunt. :D
    Sadly I wasn't there that day. :(

I remember watching the episode of Treasure Hunt where Anneka Rice was hunting for clues at the NRM.
She was directed towards the Chinese loco and climbed onto the footplate.
The contestant suggested that she look behind the steering wheel!!

Royal visits to the IOWSR have now totted up, rather unbelievably, to seven.

Katie Price and her son Harvey visited Spa Valley a couple of years ago for their Santa Specials.
I remember that because Port Talbot 813 was on loan that year.
I was well gutted I never got to see 813 in action down there.
(Also, some pumped full of plastic pile of rubbish ruining such a beautiful engine).

Well, my brother-in-law was a custody sergeant for Surrey police force, he had to deal with her a few times, none memorable.

But I digress, would you call Matt Allen famous?
I met him twice in 2014.

Stephen Hawking also visited the WSR a few years ago, and was one of the first passengers in the then newly-converted disabled access coaches.
