Looks like the spellchecker took over. Think he meant to say duster.

I find the latest post on WSR.org astonishing. It appears that WSR PLC are seeking an appropriately qualified individual to site manage on their behalf the installation of the new level crossing at Seaward Way. This for a critical project which has been several years in development, and for which site works have already commenced. Surely it's a bit late to be finding a site manager now? Has this only just been thought about?
At least we know that a contract for the job has apparently been let to Amey.

Perhaps there was a Site Manager already, but he has left or been unable to continue for some reason (eg virus?) ?

I find it astonishing, and makes me wander what the intent of your post is, if your first reaction on reading that bit of news on wsr.org.uk facebook page appears to have been to head to National Preservation to share your shock and disgust.

Probably and the WSR Plc didn't think to mention it. Communication really isn't their strong point. Oh well, if no-one knows what you are doing, then no-one will find out if you get it wrong.

I've seen very few job ads which explain why the position has become available.

However, this doesn't appear to stop some people having another dig at the WSR.

I’ve seen a fair few short notice ads that have used phrases like “Due to an unexpected vacancy,...”. I’m personally surprised by this ad being necessary, and concerned in the context of the recent history of the railway about what it may imply about the condition of the project.

It's a paid position and with money in short supply, I would have expected the P-Way team to cover this.

Many lines and organisations when people leave will put out a goodbye notice. 'And we are saying goodbye to Ms X who is leaving to do x,y,z/on leave. We will be advertising for a replacement and we wish them well.'

People then know about staff changes and it isn't a surprise when a position is advertised.

Given how critical the Seaward Way Crossing is, it seems odd to need a site manager once the project has got underway.

But again, if the WSR were better in their communication and more open and transparent then posting an advert like this wouldn't set people wondering what is up and why?

Not suggesting AFU, whether or not SN applies - just uneasy. As for the P-Way team, I thought one of the challenges from last year was that some members of paid staff had left for other jobs. The role, paid or not, doesn’t concern me but the timing does.

But you don't actually *know* why it's being advertised now. When you find out, please let us know. Until then, can you stop making assumptions and criticisms please?

Nobody knows why because the WSR doesn't tell anyone. If the WSR doesn't tell anyone what is up then people are going to wonder why.

I just can't believe that people are discussing what is going on and wondering what has happened. How outrageous.

No I don’t, nor to the best of my knowledge did the person who highlighted it.

Personally, I’m on the fence about it - I can see perfectly innocent explanations but have great doubts too.
