Only took me three trips out to finally catch up with the loco today. In the end as it arrived at Swanage, and I only went there as I assumed I had missed it at Herston. The the sun is in the wrong place late afternoon at Swanage so not great images but the loco has a lovely finish.
Edit posting these meant I just missed another chance to get an image of a loco outside my house as 257 Squadron went by heading for Herston works.

Just out of interest as it's not something I've seen before, but what is the white lining around the smoke box door?

    She looks great though.

That will be the woven fibreglass rope smokebox door seal.
It will soon be black with soot!

    Eddystone looking very fine.

Pop up to Wales and travel behind fleets of even older locos

    And 70+ years afterwards

Both 350's usually live at Swanage and as stated above were used for splitting and shunting of the tenders
34072 Loco only was roaded to Herston Works for repair
Also, Both the 350 shunters normally live at Swanage.

One day a fairy god mother will wave her magic wand and grant us access to Furzebrook sidings and create all the lovely buildings necessary to look after locos and coaches. And we will all live happily ever after.

    Or something like that.

Is there possible that the swanage railway can lay track to Helston works as I heard a man pointing to it on the train once so it must be close to there somewhere

The talk about wagons earlier has led to me remembering something. When I started as a TTI, there were two 'Southern' 8-plank wagons regularly used for ash collection and disposal which sat at the engine shed by the turntable. They were released from that duty sometime ago. One of them, an ex. Bristol wagon of ex LSWR origns (I think), was tarted up and placed in the freight set. However I haven't seen that either for a long time. Have they gone as well?

They're still on site, however they haven't been used in traffic for a while as they bear great evidence to how corrosive a substance ash can be when mixed with rain water.

The Herston Carriage Shed Appeal now stands at £36,360, well over 50% of the appeal target with two months to go before the end of June deadline.

Please donate what you can and help make our plans for undercover accommodation for 10 bogie coaches a reality!
