Sadly, it appears you may be correct, so far as pre-grouping SG examples go (the VoR and WLLR can both boast fully restored GW built examples). Here's the database I checked.
    http://www.ukprsl.uk/home.asp

I've seen a photo of stock being cleared from the Freshwater branch, ahead of closure (which I'm guessing happened everywhere before BR freight sevices ended), so unless someone knows differently, the chances do seem extremely slim. Pity.

Getting back to the subject of the thread, do not forget that the Isle of Wight Steam Railway do have a LBSCR cattle wagon, alas it’s a little delicate so at present it is a non runner.

If it's delicate then it's definitely not suitable for carrying energetic children. We need another plan.

It would no longer provide that bracing "wind in your hair with panoramic views" vibe though in its current state!

Having checked back, I can't see a link to this page, from (12th Jan) so apologies if it has previously been posted. It contains a link to a superb download with a comprehensive update on IWR Carriage No.21 (with oodles of lovely piccies):

Merely to say it has been confirmed the IOWSR is proposing to start services on 12th. April. Details on website.

The railway 's YouTube page has a video showing what has been achieved despite COVID this winter. Includes views of "Sunshine" lettering being applied to tank sides by hand .

    C. Hamilton Ellis visited the Island in 1948. He felt the O2s had never looked better than they did in malachite green. He was very likely right even if wrong in assuming this was the ''end of an old song ''.

By the way, does anyone know if the lettering in 1948 was signwritten as it is on Calbourne today?

On look south tonight there was a piece on the current works on the mainline, which advised that while the infrastructure is mainly complete there are problems with the vivarail units which means that the line won't reopen until some time in the summer. Time to break out the steam locomotives.....

    Cheers, Neil

PS I wonder whether the scheme of converting the line to an inter-urban tramway would have worked any better?
It was suggested about 12 to 15 years ago and tied in with the re-developement of the Browns Golf course and Grand Hotel in Sandown. That didn't happen either!

There have been teething troubles with Vivarail's trains that have the interchangeable diesel engine modules, but one might have expected those for the IoW, which will just be running from the third rail, to be a bit simpler. In a previous existence, however, I did learn a bit about software integrity. It is extremely common for software to turn out not to behave as intended in all circumstances: indeed it is unusual for software not to have some faults lurking somewhere inside.
Edit: Why are we discussing this on the Steam Railway thread?

I assume the Steam Railway will be putting in an offer to run the railway... Mr Reder's been quiet...

Agreed re software. Slightly disappointing that the mileage accumulation hasn't shaken this out. Maybe it's the garlic interfering with the signalling...

The steam railway could run it for the time until it gets fixed. They wouldn’t have to have certificates because they could just say that the railway is being a steam railway for a few weeks. It would take 2 engines to run the trains so it wouldn’t be a lot but this might need them up both ends

Are you saying that steam railways don't require certification and inspection???

Don't go there. Otherwise before you know it, our Dukedog-lover will say something that makes no sense; the Right Honourable member for Hayling Island will take it seriously and splutter into his cornflakes that gricers need to get a grip; the Hastings dog walker will ask nevertheless, 'being serious', whether Nuclear Fred and a handful of wagons could be used to help relaying operations at Sandown; Matt the beer expert will casually troll in with an innocent grin and ask whether the headshunt at Wooton is long enough for an air-braked 9F and before you know it another five pages of vacuum will have been generated.

I'm off to loiter around the WSR thread ...
