There’s a part of me that thinks that, I’ll have to try and dig out the video I watched.

Although (unlike Leader) it did run a few revenue goods trains as well as testing, I'm not sure the 'Turf Burner' ran enough miles to ever need washing before being laid aside.

I’m being silly. I do know it ran enough times for farmers to put in spurious insurance claims about burnt crops when it didn’t work! :)

I said designed. The loco profiles and especially the pacific casing was designed to go through a carriage washer. I don’t think it would do the coal any harm ; in fact it might improve it? Anyway run it through the washer before coaling .

There is a difference of opinion on this but it was never mentioned as a design feature by Holcroft indeed Bulleid himself as far as I know. It certainly wouldn’t have done a lot for the asbestos based fibre cladding on 21C3- 10 and the possibility of water ingress in the oilways would have been great.
The fact is that none of them were ever cleaned in that way

Cracking day at The Watercress today. An excellent show all round with plenty of social distancing, wearing of face coverings and top marks for the station staff for sanitising the carriage handles etc. at every opportunity. It was so nice to see familiar faces having a good day out after so long and even the weather 'played ball' for the most part!
A bit 'thank you' to all at the railway for putting on such a good show in what remains, 'interesting' times!

Yes absolutely - very good day. The Covid restrictions are not as rigid as last year which was welcome as the having the flexibiliy to choose which train to catch and where to sit just as at a "normal" gala was very welcome. It does of course rely on people being sensible which I think they were. The trains were well filled but there was no issue in finding a table for yourself. The one way system on the trains did confuse a few people but it wasn't a big issue/

All locos behaved themselves except 506 which didn't feel like getting out of bed so 41312 ably substituted on the first run. The two GWR tanks were the stars of course. It was really good to see a Pannier - I don't remember ever seeing one on the line before except 1501 (which isn't a proper GWR pannier in my book).

You are quite right, it’s possibly the most Un western, western loco I can think off, possibly why I hold a massive candle for it! :)

Even at the grand old age of 37, why am I thinking that ‘Duck’ and ‘Mr Toad’ are showing other railways ‘how it should be done’ in that first picture?!

Also 7715 (L99) visited the MHR in late 1995 from memory and 5764 also made a visit in March 2008. Photo below is of 5764. Sorry about the quality of the photo it was taken with an old Olympus OM10.

A great day at the MHR today. It was made workable for the public because it was not crowded and so people could navigate around each other. Station and on-train staff were diligent wiping down doors and tables at stations and layovers. And clearly the message had sunk home as it takes some discipline if you have just jumped off a footplate to go into the buffet for a snack to remember to put on your mask, never mind having it in the pocket of your overalls in the first place.

925 took some time out for a lubrication problem to be looked at and the Ivatt stepped in otherwise things seemed to go as planned. The double headed 15:00 ex Alresford was fun with 5526 + 41312.

And you get some unusual photo opportunities like this one.
