Ross is a member of the Teifi Valley Railway Society. The Society owns a large majority of the shares in the Teifi Valley Railway Ltd. so all the members are effectively shareholders and have a right to expect information about what is going on with their Company, particularly if its future is in doubt. Because the Society is a charity, the shares are held in trust by trustees. At present according to the Charity Commission they are N Cox, I Macfadzean, M Harbud and G Harbud. What are they doing to keep members informed?

Not an awful lot, really. No newsletter or such, and there's no news at all on the webpage. In fact, I don't think I've heard a thing since I got my members card. I expect I'll get a renewal request. It has been hard to actually have any sort of involvement this past year. I don't want the heddlu arresting me for travelling contrary to the WA's rules

Maybe that is a calling and the TVR would welcome an offer of someone writing a newsletter for the membership and wider audience. It’s also something you could contribute remotely. @D1039 has experience and knows a thing or two about how to produce a decent newsletter, maybe he would be willing to give advice to help get the ball rolling, just a thought...

It's the same with shareholders. No accounts sent out for a few years.

Not, I think, for me. I'm really awful at communication- its something people complain about me. One lady said to my wife that apart from "good morning", "good night", and "yes please" to tea, I never said anything to her for a week, but I talk to my tools all the time. Apparently, this is not normal

The facebook page with over 3000 likes is perhaps the closest to a newsletter, from it looks like maintenance is continuing and trains ran over the Mayday weekend
The article in the Advertiser online highlighting the lack of accounts had a response from the railways saying “The accounts are now being worked on and will be submitted well before the date.” lets hope this happens.

It is - you must be the inspiration for Handy Manny

The Welsh Government. The Senedd don't manage any budgets.

Ni fyddai gwell dealltwriaeth o'r Gymraeg yn gwneud unrhyw niwed, oni fyddech chi'n cytuno?

(Ydw, rydw i'n ceisio dysgu Cymraeg. ;))

What with Welsh orthography being a lot more phonetic than English (OK, there are a handful of sounds utterly alien to English speakers), using Welsh terms, where appropriate, really is not as scarey a prospect as many Anglophone folk believe. Honest! :)

I was part of a campaign trying to ensure the Senedd only had a Welsh name (in a similar vein to the Dail) but ultimately bilingualism won that battle. Though ironically it's almost exclusively referred to as the Senedd within Wales now (which we always said it would be regardless of it's bilingual name).

The more important point though is that's it's no longer the Welsh Assembly, it's either the Welsh Parliament or Senedd Cymru.

(Dwi newydd ddechrau dysgu Cymraeg hefyd)

It needs to be mentioned that in Welsh, "dd" is pronounced as the English "th". Impressively, even the BBC newsreaders get that right.

We’re going way off topic, but I’m glad bilingualism won - those who don’t speak Welsh deserve recognition as being properly Welsh as well as those who do.

That's half a syllable less to worry about for monoglot Anglophone types wanting to spend a few hours studying the Ffestiniog's spiral close up! ;)

    Yes, sorta kinda.
English has two different sounds spelt 'th': the voiced sound in 'then' and the voiceless sound in 'thin'. (If you say them to yourself you should be able to hear the difference). In Welsh we use 'th' for the sound in English 'thin', and 'dd' for the sound in 'then'. Thus 'senedd' ends in the voiced sound as in 'breathe', 'feather' and so on, not the voiceless sound that you get in 'breath', 'Cathy'. A pair of words that show this in Welsh are 'beth?' (='What?') and 'bedd' (='grave' as in Beddgelert.)
