That was really bad luck, but I enjoyed it all the same.

There's a video HERE shot from near where I was and he's got the TV helicopter in the background and as you can see the train almost stopped.

I thought HRH was going to get out and sign autographs! :-D

Any idea when the numberplate is being moved. Also what does the plaque under the nameplate say.

Do you think HRH put in a complaint about there being a diesel on the back?

The plaque says something like 60163 Tornado named at York station 19/2/2009 by old big ears and madam horsey face - or words to that effect depending on your attitude to royalty and hangers on.

As Victor says - Networks Rail's light touch management at Leeds was superb

Arrival at York afterwards under NXEC management was like something out of Stalag 14 - totally OTT - especially when you take into account that the two passengers weren't even there anymore!

Saw a picture on Flickr and someone made a valid point.

Isn't there supposed to be a lamp on the top bracket as well so they are all showing?

I was under the impression that you could only carry 4 lamps if the top royal was on board... Any lesser royals including Charles have to make do with three...

Both 6024 on the SVR and 6233 on the S&C royal trains carried a headboard and 3 lamps. Only the 6233 run in North Wales carried 4.

Oh, that was you I was stood behind! Good job the tamper thing got out of the way(ish) in time. I got stuffed for a shot on Saturday, twice in a week would've been silly.

I had to make do with the BBC news and the excellent shots on Fotopic.
The BBC VT editor needs sacking, 2 minute lead up to the unveiling that was cut short at the crasp for the cord ](*,) , never actually saw the nameplate.

I note from photos that the right hand nameplate has the crest of RAF Cottesmore where I believe the plates were made (back in 1992/3 I think). Can anyone tell me what the other crest is please? Is it RAF Leeming's crest, who seem to have taken over the RAF connection from Cottesmore, since the Harriers moved into Cottesmore?

In response to earlier questions RAF Leeming is on the drivers side of 60163 and RAF Cottesmore on the fireman's side. RAF Leeming refurbished the plates for the naming ceremony. Originally the plates were the other way round but were quickly changed such that RAF Leeming was platform 9 side at York as the Duchess of Cornwall is an Honoray Air Cmmodore of RAF Leeming which station she visited later in the day.

The numberplate is not moving anywhere any time soon.

For those who chose to make childish, derogatory remarks about TRH I can assure you and everyone else that throughout their time at York and on the journey to Leeds they were wonderful and it was an extraordinary privilege to be involved.

I am surprised the moderators said nothing!

Only seen a fuzzy pic of the plate in question but sure looks to me like the RAF Leeming crest.

Just got back from abroad, glad to see the naming went well, and the trip with the Royal train.

Call me a misery guts, but I hope the 'named by' plaque doesnt stay. I thought the idea was to make her look like a believable regular service A1, and that plaque spoils it for me.
