Playing hide and seek with the sun at Ais Gill.

Great to be out of the county again. I'll be back for more in the rain on Thursday if all goes to plan. 35018-(28)-nat-pres-web.jpg

So good to break cover again, with BIL doing the honours in some glorious spring sunshine. Could only do the outward leg but a nice little appetiser to what will hopefully be a much better second half of the year and a bit for mainline steam and for the whole preservation movement.

Same again Thursday and Saturday, a glutton for punishment springs to mind!

Great to be back chasing steam on the S&C, even if it was the clagless wonder that is BIL :)
Tried a new location at Little Salkeld that had dappled sun, none on the ground and a little at the viaduct.
I messed up the return shot on the S&C due to the early running but caught up at Hellfield and Whalley viaduct for what turned out to be the best light of the day.
Plenty of familiar faces on the lineside which was good to see, another step to normality achieved.

The Jacobite thread manages, and that involves over 200 trains a year.... ;)

The noise from the front on the climb to Ais Gill summit was amazing and that was from the back coach, Mr Kelly had nothing but praise for his fireman when I spoke to him back at Preston. Re the lack of smoke, I understand the latest batch of Russian coal produces very little smoke and the fireman cannot rely on firing to the smoke colour.

Some excellent photos and vids but now for something completely different - a bit of mobile phone footage from Langho. Sorry about the editing but you can't show what's not recorded.

Agreed, but many of the Jacobite trips result in no posts whilst all Dalesman and Pendle Dalesman usually have multiple posts (typically a couple of pages per trip?). Not our choice best left to the Mods to decide.

Having now viewed all the pictures and videos it would seem that this new batch of coal certainly burns very clean, or is it just the consummate skill of the WCR firemen. :)
