Load 10. Sounded superb on the cam blasting through a very wet and windy Horton 14 early.

Oops, stopped between the road bridge and the summit board, obviously a problem with coal, appears that the good Russian stuff has been used up and now down to the old stuff in the tender, I may be wrong but now got black smoke, unless they have elected a new Pope...

A trip very much of two halves. A superb effort northbound with David Blair and Rob Russell, forging their charge up the drag in true S&C murk, with nothing less than 44mph on both sections of 1 in 100. The time Settle Jn-Blea Moor Box being 19:04.

Even the Carlisle-Appleby section gave no indication of the difficulties that would soon be faced, a brisk sprint in the very smart time of 45:39 which included a TSR just south of Armathwaite. But Ais Gill was not kind to Guardsman today, slithering along Mallerstang in the low teens and before long the inevitable with a stop for a blow up close to Milepost 260.

The restart was a masterclass in loco handling by Chris Cubitt, no trace of a slip and up to 20mph by the summit.

20/05/2021 - In Heavy rain and atrocious conditions LMS Royal Scot Class - 46115 "Scots Guardsman racing pass Station cottages near Selside on the Dalesman from York to Carlisle running 15 minutes early.

Although not a full load, probably the most impressive run at this location I have seen in all the years I have been photographing here !!

46115 seen charging passed Arcow Quarry and struggling up to Aisgill eventually coming to a halt, apart from getting soaked twice today there's a couple of glitches so apologies.

You're a hero. I was planning to go today, but I bottled it. Great footage.

The poor old girl just ran out of breath and needed a breather. I know the feeling, but I can't blame a leak in my case, just age and condition.

The fireman deserved his pint tonight.

The two runs...MN and Scot......are not easy to compare because of the different conditions and of course the different power ratings. But assuming that both fireman were on top of the job, which is highly likely, it does show that a Bulleid boiler is something else.

Oh come on Al I know you are a died in the wool Bulleid fan but to make a statement like that when you have no idea what the problem was with the Scot, and making a comparison based on one day is totally ridiculous. We all know that the Scot has put in some stunning performances in the past and even the North bound run could not be faulted as @Mick45305 says.

I wouldn’t call that struggling, there are a couple of TSRs on the climb I believe. I see it’s got that common Stanier loco affliction, draincock jammed open
