Now didn’t someone once say that having a class 483 at the IOWSR was pure WIBN?

Good to see it tucked up in it’s new home. Looking forward to visiting later in the year and seeing the new display and video being put inside it.

 

Wonder if they've started drilling the sleepers for the third rail yet...

Nice to see. When was that facility opened? Last time I was on the IoWSR, I don't remember seeing it, just a very barrier-ed off look inside the carriage workshops. As one who likes a good mooch along a linear scrapyard, this is at least some compensation. (the last time I went, I felt very corralled compared to other lines, so this looks a good improvement).

 

Yes, strange that, it just goes to show, WIBN can sometimes work out OK, when situations turn an dream to reality, But enough of that, Railways on the Isle of Wight didnt end, when the last 02 was cut up it continues on, to this very day, when the next generation of electric units will take over, It was IMHO, A mistake to have not acquired an example of the standard stock, either a driving trailer, or power car, when they were withdrawn, but things were different then, and the obtaining of 007 is in my view correct because electric traction on the Isle of Wight does have its own story to be told.

 

That will be announced April 1st 2022, With a photo of 007 departing Havenstreet bound for Smallbrook, on the juice .

 

As WIBNs go, that's rather unambitious. Someone better acquainted with the software than me (i.e. 99% of people who've heard of Photoshop) might do a fake up of it at Yarmouth.

That’s the train story building. Very impressive and really adds to the visitor experience as as added attraction to look around, as well as protecting stock from the elements.

 

Ah, what's a year between friends? Looking online, it looks like the building was open to the public in 2014, and in 2015 there was a formal "ribbon cutting" with various dignitaries. Amazing how time flies!

Will there be any way to use it ever as it’s quite low carriages so everyone will have trouble getting down inside them.

platforms on the IOW were low anyway, I'm not sure if the one at Havenstreet is, because the station was rebuilt by Southern Railway, but the original platforms were certainly low by mainland standard, i'm not sure how much of a step down there would be but would it cause any problems ? as long as your not expecting to take buggies and wheelchairs,
How are the brakes powered on an 38, i know their air, but can they be worked with the unit dead, with air provided by another locomotive ?
