Only had time for a northbound shot yesterday and as good friend Ian Cawthorne always advices "if you see better light on the S&C go chase after it", so at the last moment I ditched gloomy Langcliffe and kept driving and found this little spotlight at Selside ...

Technical problem with lead loco, now sorted, in order to get back on schedule Preston stop is to be omitred and passengers are going to Blackburn where we will pick them up. At least that's the plan.

Update, it appears that the Tesco train that passed us in Warrington has sat down blocking the WCML, we have got past by going via Esrlestown ond Newton le Wilows?

Yup. WCML seems to be up the spout north of Carlisle. Quite possibly a clear run to Carnforth today!

Through Oxenholme so next stop Carnforth what a brilliant run, and I will bet the crew are enjoying not having the stop start journey they were expecting. :)

We could be at Carnforth for a bit longer than the loco change time, the diners have only just started their main course so getting to Preston before they are finished would not be popular. :(

A bit of a hiatus at WBQ, but armed with the on-board info from @Ralph W (thanks Ralph) I was confident enough to head out. For the first time in 15 months I crossed the border into North Yorkshire. A stop at Hellifield to view the loco + POB. Leander was magnificently turned out and already coupled to the north end of her equally resplendent support coach. The duo were waiting in the up goods loop for the arrival of the late running train. Chris Cubbitt was the driver and the only man on the footplate, I watched as he shovelled a few round into the firebox in readiness for the journey ahead.

I headed up to Helwith Bridge and walked up the road towards the quarry before taking the path under the railway and found a nice spot from which to watch. It was warm and sunny with a gentle breeze. A check on RTT showed that the train arrived at Hellifield 30L - would it run before or after the Carlisle train? I didn't have long to wait, some time was clawed back on the loco change and the train left before the Leeds-Carlisle, now 20L (well done to everyone involved).

Soon I could hear the unmistakable sound of a Jubilee exhaust, it took almost 2 minutes for the loco to appear as she burst under the road bridge. In the heat the exhaust was a grey haze, but a grey haze that shot a good distance into the sky. The train sparkled in the sun and headed off north, roaring away, past Crag Hill Farm, curving to the right, under the bridge and she was gone. Lovely stuff!
