There is possibly space but its not a simple re in statement - the south western arm of the triangle might have to run onto the furthest west line to give a nice e curve and then making this one of the clear lines into the station - everything else moved south east to suit possibly creating a bottleneck and loss of sidings... the more i think about it a turntable looks easier:oops:

https://maps.nls.uk/view/101102942 shows an east-to-southwest curve, but joining the then line towards the southwest somewhat beyond the Buckley Wells yard area, on an alignment that is now part of the tram route.

It was Bury Loco Junction to Bury Loop Junction to the east of Bury Knowsley Street. The line closed in March 1967 but reopened over part of the route in March 1980 to allow access to Bury Interchange and the closure of Bury Bolton Street. At this time coal trains were still running to Rawtenstall and a flat crossing was provided just to the south of the Interchange. The Metrolink was operational by the time the ELR opened to Heywood in September 2003 necessitating the construction of the "Ski Jump" bridge on the site of Knowsley Street Station.

Isn't this the section of track that they have been replacing because the wooden sleepers were life expired? Front of current magazine shows the curve at Irwell Vale with new concrete sleepers in place awaiting the steel ribbons.

Can't see any other photo's of the resumption of services, so here goes. My wife and I donned boots and hiking gear, ruck sack and camera, and walked over to Burrs, then up to Rammy and back. Times were to the usual ELR standards (late), and they swapped the steam and diesel turns at lunch time, just to confuse everyone. Almost no linesiders, morning trains were sparsely filled (one is all we could see on the 10.20 diesel service), afternoon services were better filled, usual state of affairs. 80097 handled the steam turn, D5054 the diesel with the bubble car doing the Rawtenstall - Ramsbottom shuttles over the dodgy road. I doubt tomorrows fare takings will be any better in view of the weather forecast, we'll see. Lovely chortling spin dryer at low speed sound, rising to a grunting chug on pulling away, quite nostalgic after being locked away for all this time, tear to the eye!!:D Double jabbed now, so felling somewhat safer. Thanks for the comments, I still prefer the yellow panel, think it compliments the green, three chromes, green/yellow/red, wonderfully toxic but looks nice!

Looks like the South African variant is spreading from Bury to Rossendale?:D
