That's something you don't see normally. The Black 5 has pulled the Class 47 off the train, drawn it forward and dropped it back into Platform 10.

Was 47614 the loco which hauled the train from Worcester?

It kept time throughout, then apparently failed on arrival at Crewe, right outside their front door, so to speak. Fortunate timing for the travellers and LS!

Guess after all thats happened this last year or so, they deserve a bit of luck :)

Couldn't be bothered with the great unwashed on the A55 today so just went out for the return trip this evening, seeing 45231 at Beeston running about an hour late, though the crew seem to be taking it easy.
Not the intended image but the background is possibly as interesting as the subject, the 1886 built mock Tudor Beeston Towers (latterly Wild Boar Hotel) , built for Warrington timber merchant John Naylor whose companies woodyard on the side of the Ship Canal was close to my childhood home. Sadly the building, typically Cheshire in appearance, has been recently unoccupied and vandalised.

A grotty overcast start on the Cheshire plain at Hargrave on the approach to Chester outward, and a very much against the light 1 hour late through Chester East Junction on the return. For paraffin can devotees, a bonus of a Class70 on the logs running a few minutes before the steam approaching East Junction, the houses to the right in the background is the former sight of the erstwhile LMR steam shed. Stanier 5MT 45231 heads along the North Wales Coast, proudly carrying 'The Irish Mail' headboard on its journey from Crewe to Holyhead. We first see the train working hard from above the tunnel mouth at Ty Mawr/Bodorgan, Anglesey. On the return we stay on Anglesey with a couple of shots from Rhosneigr, before moving to the mainland at Pensarn.

For the 16 June tour to Portsmouth, I see RTT has it running via Southampton Central, then Eastleigh, then Botley with no reversal mentioned. Any ideas how?! RTT normally indicates a reversal when one is scheduled.

That route would reverse the train at Eastleigh ready for the return working. Agreed that the schedule is missing an "RM" at Eastleigh.
Th return working is via Netley and Southampton.
By the way, the schedules for the ECS to and from Fratton CSD have been diverted to and from Eastleigh Arlington (Loco Works).
The down side is not much time to coal and water the loco. The positive is an additional chance of a lineside photo with steam leading.

    Cheers, Neil

Very surprised there's been no mention of 46100's trip to Kingswear yesterday. Did no one go out to see it, or were the results too "ordinary" to post?

I'll jump in and offer my footage from Sunday, which has just gone up. Filmed at Yatton, Beambridge, Noss Marina, Burlescombe and Cogload Junction. Enjoy! :)

A few of us around at Horseshoe Bridge St Denys. 46100 was going well on 10 plus silent 47.593. Too hot for any smoke from the Scot. Later I was by myself at Botley to see 46100 running very fast 5 early on the ecs to Eastleigh. Regulator shut but blower on so black smoke partly obscured the train. Too hot and sun too high for decent steam photography. Will try again later.
