Hi all - Its states on the MHR website that #850 has a new brick arch cast from refractory concrete? Can someone tell me what this means? It doesn't look the norm to what i've been used to putting into a firebox in the past???

One thing about #850 is that she will look quite at home on MHR metal with a rake of SR MK1's... =D>

Concrete arches are quite common in locos. It's just another way of doing it. They are not concrete as used in building work but are made from a refractory cement which is able to withstand the high temperatures. They aren't painted!

Really?

Within 0.010" for coupled wheels.

The rear tyres look thinner than the leading and driving one in photographs, let alone up close!

I saw her go up to Alton today but 90 mins later still hadn't returned, anyone got any ideas what happened?

Chawton Woods is a lovely place but does get a tad boring after a while!

We were waiting as well near Ropley!
We saw her on the run from Alresford. Unfortunately she was failed at Alton with lubrication problems (that is what we were told at Medstead) and did not return to Ropley until after the services had finished. She was assisted by 60019 from Alton back to Ropley. The picture is a bit dark as the light was fading fast. Pictures from today below:LN WEDDING 2.JPG[/attachment:2j485vcj]LNBITTMED10-02-09.JPG[/attachment:2j485vcj]WADEBRIDGE MEDSTEAD.JPG[/attachment:2j485vcj]

saw Lord Nelson today, albeit only backwards.

She went down to Alresford before early on and was coupled to her coaches so there were no good photos to be had.

When she got to Alton, there was a problem with the lubricators so she held up other services, so all trains were late. The best photo of the day to be had was of it in Alton carriage sidings.

What a bad ending to the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ](*,)

I've got a feeling that what has been explained on this page and the last page has affected her failing? ](*,) ](*,)

I think they should get her into Ropley shed and deal with the problem personally before letting her out again! I'm down in March, so I can help if need to then?

Found this on the MHR website. Nothing too serious!

Thought you'd like information about #850 - if only to scotch the rumours!

#850 Lord Nelson passed its first MHR load test with a light (two MHR volunteers' wedding!) train on 29th February 2009 but was stopped at Alton over something very trivial: the hydrostatic lubricator needed refilling but the crew couldn't shift the filler plug (!)

Wadebridge was summoned, #850 taken back to Ropley MPD and the offending plug was removed without damage.

Didn't the restoration team say that the only set of tyres that needed turning was the rear set? This was the reason for the rear wheelset being removed following re-wheeling of the loco as a whole; anyone remember the photos of it as a 4-4-0 with a Schools nameplate?
