It has been mentioned on the 'S&D' thread, but it has been confirmed that the MHR is overhauling 'Kilmersdon'. In time for the next 'Thomas' event so I'm guessing its going to be in green....

Just to manage expectations slightly, we have a Thomas event from the 7th to 15th August. Even we aren't quite that quick! We hope to have it ready for next year.

Credit where it’s due, having been today with my children, the MHR certainly put on a great Thomas event. It was really well done and thought out so a big thank you from the family and me, everyone we met were really friendly too.

The railway even put on some lovely cooling rain at exactly the right time as Ropley was boiling before that ;):D

Since Covid began, we as a family have only visited three railways, the SVR, one of my local lines, (I basically live slap bang in the middle of them, the GWSR & DFR), chosen as it wasn’t far, had a good Covid secure procedure & at the time of our visits offering something more than just a round trip with the Engine house (both my children love that place), so went a few times.

We also visited the Evesham Vale Light Railway for a quick trip but that was because we were visiting the garden centre there and they were running so basically a spur of the moment thing.

The only other railway we have visited together during that time (until today) was the L&B a couple of times. We visited there in September because we were in the area. We go to North Devon quite regularly and my just turned 3 year old son has developed quite an obsession with Lyn (and always asks to go for a ride behind her even at home). We would of also visited the WSR. Minehead is a regular stop off en route to North Devon. However, they were closed of course so that didn’t happen.

That was the lot until today, even when legal, we didn’t really travel far and wide as we would normally do. It was actually my sons birthday yesterday, we saw the Thomas event and thought ideal for him. It had quite a lot riding on it as it was not only his birthday, but apart from a visit to our local bird of prey centre, the first visit anywhere this year. In fact apart from the North Devon trips, it’s the furthest we have ventured in about 15 months.

I’m pleased we decided to go as it was a great event. Sure it’s not one for purists, (although I did chuckle just to myself at the thought of some forum members reactions, having got past the face and livery of Thomas and then discovering the class 47 on the back :D ).

It is a family event and the MHR should be proud of their offering, it not only met all expectations, it exceeded them so a big well done and thank you once again from us.

Thank you for the kind words. Really great to know that you enjoyed the event.

It is a family event, and it is great to see so many having a great day out. I also hope that we are creating a few enthusiasts for the future. Some of those who now work on the line remember that their first experience of steam was at a Thomas event here!

Thanks for the reply and you are welcome, no need to thank me as the compliments were well deserved, out of interest (and accepting commercial confidentiality), is the event doing well visitor number wise? It certainly seemed so the day we visited, although the railway took that in it’s stride.

Long shot: Any ideas on what the three locos are for next weekends War on the Line? Presuming it's the same operation as the Spring Steam Gala

Sorry if the answer has already been said or is in an obvious place.

I've just found out that I've been invited along to the War on the Line event next weekend. I've visited the railway many times but never done a war on the line event. I can't find the timetable for the day itself on the website. Is it the regular three train timetable or is it different?

Will this do it for you although you are correct that the T/T isn't obvious?

Cheers but I already checked the website. If you click on special days it will just take you to the event page, which tells you what is happening and how much it costs but not the actual train times.

The timetable is on the link below -https://www.facebook.com/watercressline/photos/a.326520647383905/4097423063626959/?type=3

Hopefully that will work, the event booklet that is from is on the official Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/watercressline/

I’m pretty sure you do not need a fb account to view.

Given yesterdays antics atop the hill, there are two songs that spring to mind....... "Come on baby light my fire" as it was all about the doors  on the GPV and along with that Sabbath's " Snowblind" given the amount of painting going on in the harsh summer light! :Arghh:

Although slightly reduced in numbers from last week, there was no let up in the pace, as we really have the bit between our teeth now - the finishing line is nigh......... :)

Between four of us & in bo particular order, there was further fettling on doors 1&2, though not much - door three was lifted off its hinges, which were bored out slighty to enable the pins to go home a lot easier, as it was a pig to rehang a few weeks ago! Also the top was trimmed by a 1/4" to allow it to open properly past the rain lip.

Door #4 was trial fitted & it was found that it too needed a smidge taken off the top to allow it to open fully.

Elsewhere, the frames for doors 1&2 were primed & undercoated to await fitting & installation of the cladding before going into gloss.

The overhangs of the roof underneath were both given another coat of undrcoat & the roof was prepped & given its 1st undercoat.

Also, door #2 was undercoated on both sides.

Along with all that doors 3&4 had their screw holes widened & countersunk to accommodate the original brass screws.

Not a bad days work for four like minded nutters! :) :) :)

It was also once again nice to see the trains that passed us full of happy smiling familes enjoying the penultimate day out with Thomas!

A couple of pics of 30925 & 76017 doing the honours.

One idea is if the sdr use one of there trucks as a tender for kilmesdon and hide in it water tank and extra coal supples then it could go along way but look like it is pulling a wagon.
