From what I’ve read I believe Solvite wasn’t the product used to stick the stuff down, what that ad does prove is black will never go out of fashion on a Stanier Class 5 :)

Indeed when [4]5212 was on the Moors and they overhauled her, fragments of the wallpaper were found in obscure hard to reach places......:eek:o_O:confused:!

Solvite was used...originally. Araldite sorted the bits that refused to lie down!

Definitely 45212. Had a distinct backward tilt to the cab when I first saw it on the KWVR.

I had a very enjoyable run behind 828 today - the heavy train and timetable meant she was worked pretty hard - with some smart running between stations. Certainly left with a smile on my face! The recent overhaul has given the old lady an injection of youth!
Full marks to the Strathspey for an immaculate train, which was spotlessly clean. The staff have clearly got the operation well drilled with social distancing well managed at all times.
This really is an impressive railway, with fantastic scenery and is clearly well managed.
I decided to join as a member recently despite living 450 miles away and only managing the odd visit. With the loco fleet expanding and Grantown on the horizon the next decade will see it developing even more.

Was it really 10 years ago ‘the little blue engine’ as my mum put it upstaged a certain new build Pacific at the SVR? How time flies.

I think I may asked this question before, am I right in thinking they were consecutive numbers? Or am I wrong?

I'm afraid so! It won a lot of friends on that visit and performed really well by all accounts. I hope it comes south again at some point, but there is something special about seeing it on 'home turf' on the Strathspey.

Quoting from the book by John F Clay
    Experimental liveries by BR were
    4762 painted SR Green
    4763 painted LNER Green
    4764 painted GWR Green
45225 was then painted LNWR Black (by Riddles)

    I don't see any reference to 44806.

44932 was green in the early days at Carnforth.

Found this too which includes the above in greater detail

44806 was green in early preservation days. I remember seeing it at Helmshore station at the East Lancs open day on August bank holiday Monday 1970

From there it went to Lakeside & Haverthwaite, still in lined green. The owner Ken Aldcroft brought it to Steamport c.1973-4. Our then chairman repainted it in unlined black but the loco had problems with cracking in the shoulders of the backhead which had been previously seen a bodged repair so we only steamed it a couple of times.
In the early days at Carnforth several locos were painted in what we irreverently called 'fairground' liveries including 45407 in Furness red.
