I had heard of some plans to do this... I think some of the cleaners at Weybourne have already made a start with etchings on the WD though!

Given reports that 76079 now shines like a new pin under it's many coats of paint and varnish, I would imagine anyone approaching the 4MT with chalk to put on slogans on it would be severely dealt with by Mr Riley! :smt021

Now, the WD in it's filthy condition (see below) would look good.

Newly outshopped J15 (with new correct height chimney) and filthy WD being prepared for steam test yesterday:

B1 now in more photographable position and now even cleaner!

The WD should be even worse now (hopefully!) as a few of us spent an afternoon trying to get the best effect!

IIRC, there's a picture of a a 2MT Mickey Mouse with Chalk Scribbles all over the Tender in the Souvenir Book - might be nice to recreate something like that for Saturday the 28th? Might be nice to attack the J15 with such things even if for one day.

Things are definatly taking shape now though, its going to be a stonking gala. The J15 was skipping around the yard, tis lovely to see it back in steam and moving again. The WD is starting to really look the business. Took a few snaps over the last three days I've been up at Weybourne (more on my site):

I had a quick peek in Carriage & Wagon too - the Quads and M&GN 129 are stunning to say the least. This is the numbering from one of the panels on the Quads:

    Roll on the Gala!

I have just got my orange high viz off ebay (for the charter and Weybourne on Saturday), if anyone wants a cheap, fast delivery service then you could use this guy. Here is the item number 360109605349.

plus I guess most of the parking will be at Holt if you travel (where me and my dad will be on saturday) Do you think there will be enough for demand.
(will there be the normal £1 charge?)
plus the extra quad charge (how much again)

    this just helps planning
    thanks

    Hi Owen

BTW - The references to 2MTs in the captions in the 'Closure section' of the brochure was a production 'glitch' that slipped past the many proof readers - should have read 4MT - I'm now felling well and truely chastised by my learned M&GN colleagues and I shall retreat into my corner. Must write 400 lines 'They're 4MTs not 2MTs, They're 4MTs and 2MTs,..........' D'oh!

    Steve

PS - DACE83 - As far as I'm aware there is no Quad supplement for this event as the rover ticket covers all travel.

Most of the NNR's "in house" parking will be at Holt. We are still in negotiations with various groups/organisations to secure a couple of "external" car parks which, if successful, would be serviced by the "Rail Replacement Buses" to enable visitors to get quickly to one of the stations. Unfortunately we are not likely to know whether we have the extra parking until a day or two beforehand though.

If you're coming on a Saturday parking at Sheringham is limited because of the market, otherwise there is the large council car park there, as well as various streets around the station with few or no parking restrictions. I would avoid Weybourne station for parking though as I think most, if not all, of the car park will be reserved for the buses.

There is no charge for parking on our land - the £1 at Holt is an optional donation. There is also no supplement to ride on the Quads during That's Yer Lot - there rover tickets for the steam gala are already more than standard tickets (obviously) so there is no extra charge on top of the gala day rover.

That's good then, the quads must be sampled!

just wondering, the £1 at Holt. Does it go to the society or the PLC?

I think (don't quote me on it!) it goes to the Friends of Holt Station, who finance projects at that station.

Yeah that’s what i had in mind with the 28th being the "special" day i thought it would be something different, not many other railways have taken up this opportunity and felt it would be something different. Maybe even if it was just on one side of an engine as I’m sure there would be plenty of people who would feel the need to complain on how it’s getting in the way of their masterpiece, haha. The WD looks splendid, credit to all the cleaners that have spent so much time getting her into that "state". I have to agree Owen the J15 would be ideal for the scribbles, also with it being a home based engine people can always get back to the line to see it clean if they wish.

I'm reliably informed all visiting locomotives have now arrived at the NNR. Next follows two days of coupling up, shunting, watering up and general prep before "the big event".

Have a look in the guide book dace83. I'm sure someone as keen as you on the gala has purchased one?

The idea is to try and (roughly) imitate the demolition trains that ran soon after closure, so the main focus of the goods train will be the steam crane. That hasn't been used at a gala for at least seven years, possibly a lot longer. There will also be one (maybe two) wagons, plus the obligatory brake van on either end. We are limited for this gala by the length of Holt headshunt, as the crane and match wagon are quite long and we have to fit the whole goods set and a large locomotive into the siding.

Nonetheless I think it will be great to see a "proper", partially-fitted goods train return to galas after a long absence.

As for timings, the goods makes several trips each day (more on the Friday when there are less passenger trains). As Dave said, full details are available in the Souvenir Programme.
