Hi folks,

The times for this on UKSteam Info:
http://uksteam.info/tours/t09/t0221a.htm

...suggest that 34067 might be on the back of the ECS early tomorrow morning. Does anyone know whether this is indeed the case, or whether she's getting to Pompey by some other route / times? Reason I ask is that I may get chance to see it before heading off to the Bluebell gala tomorrow morning, but won't bother if she's just being towed...

Cheers, and thanks,
Jon

I note that both specials running on the Southern tomorrow pass through Barnes. Being a 'Northerner' I'm not familiar with that station at all - is it any good from a photography point of view ? Any knowledge grateful !

There are a number of photo opportunities at or near Barnes. The station is a good start along the platform. Towards London there is a couple of over bridges and a little further a pedestrian overbridge with a clean view of the line. Going away from London the line splits towards Richmond and Hounslow, both lines have level crossings ether side of signal box or some sort of building. Good opportunities there. I see the two engines pass by very close... if Tangmere is ahead of time by a few minutes there could be an opportunity to see them pass each other. Best of luck.

Another from Winchfield. Not sure about this one but gives a bit more of an overall view:

Hey John. Didn't you do well by asking that question and going to Barnes!

Couple of very good photos. Thanks for posting them here.

Thanks Bryan, kind of you to say ! Yes, it was a good choice. As well as the responses on the thread, I had a few PM's too, which really underlines one of the more positive aspects of Nat Pres; helping each other!

Thanks for sharing with us Northerners with nothing to see this weekend on the mainline.

No probs Bobbler ! Sometimes we just have to head south for something different (as Southern people often head north). I must say it's easier for me as I worked on the big railway for a 34 year period and got to keep my free travel. Lucky I know!

Great picture Matt!

She was really flying through Winchfield with her whistle blowing. Fantastic! Managed to get a few pictures even though she was racing along:tang winchf 1.JPG[/attachment:3ii4gj6l]tang winchf21-02-09.JPG[/attachment:3ii4gj6l]tang speed.JPG[/attachment:3ii4gj6l]

You were lucky to miss me, just the other side of the canopy on the same side. Had a quick view of the diesel on this one but did anyone manage to note which one it was? My view was much the same but if anyone wants to look the link is:

The diesel was 47 787

I do not want to start another debate about the rights and wrongs of diesels on the back of steam trains but I'm just curious to know whether West Coast use them to heat the trains (ETH) as well as for ECS moves. Last time I went on a steam-heated train operated by West Coast the heating left a lot to be desired!

Basically yes.

I think on the Green train there was an Mk1 in the formation which at the time only accepted one form of heating rather than steam & ETH.
