Really !? That is just pain nasty, I could use other words, but then this a family form. He should be bloody ashamed of himself, people have lost jobs for less the WSR should remove him from this post and his membership terminated with immediate effect.

We're in 2021 for gods sake!

I have to say, if you want to come and view people with bitter and twisted views, this is the place to come. If it is not the plc and the association kicking the crap out of each other, it is the battle with S&D lot or other extraneous arguments.

Thank god I have no vested interest in the railway. If this warped culture continues, I doubt the railway will survive.

While I agree with the emotions, I observe (1) that he is no longer in his post and (2) that one of the problems of the WSR is the over-willingness to terminate membership.

We have new heard the other side of the story re QB in post 38049.
Maybe we will get denials or confirmation of Chris Pratt's statement.

But was it deliberate (which I take to be crucial for "nastiness")? I don't know the person, perhaps it was.

Let us be clear - the 'WSR' does not have 'members'. The WSRA has members, the 'railway' has volunteers who are required to have Staff ID cards issued by the Plc.

You can cease to be a WSRA member, but still be a Plc volunteer. On the other hand, if the Plc withdraw your ID then you can no longer be a volunteer for the 'railway', but you can remain a WSRA member (if you are one).

I would assume - but never had cause to check - that even without a Staff ID card one could still volunteer for one of the groups based on or associated with the WSR provided that you did not do that actually on or near the railway itself (eg you could work at an off-site location). Any one know please?

I saw the unedited comment; it jarred but was also capable of innocent interpretation (and "she" was used later in his essay).

Notwithstanding the correction - which I acknowledge - from @RailWest, I stand by my view that expulsions are the wrong way to proceed - and that the WSR has far too much history of that being done.

Hasn't the WSR got any TPO pickup apparatus? Perhaps that could be modified  ;).

It is a shame to read about the QB vehicles possibly being sold off as lack of purpose. I guess not the first railway to stop doing dining services - GWSR, Llangollen and Dartmouth have all stopped over the last 20 years.

QB always seemed a plc v WSRA issue. They stopped running the breakfast gala trains at one point around 2012, which was baffling as it was always full.

I'm sure the carriages could be used for something. The RMB, for sure, and FO could be used in usual service trains. FO could be a premium carriage with maybe free teas and coffees etc, even outside catering specials (fish and chips on the 4pm service off MD etc). RU could be a more griddle coach for occasional use in summer and galas, rather than offering a 3 course meal lunch, although I guess the stumbling block is the BSK generator if it must be used.

I would have thought it better to hire the complete set out with a maintenance contract as they are almost impossible to replace.

The DSR did have an alternative, namely a vessel among the marine fleet.

I don't know if other people reported the post for misgendering but I did. I find it hard to believe that in such a lengthy and detailed post that is largely free from typos etc that someone could 'accidentally' repeatedly only produce typos that result in misgendering. Many people including myself are poor writers and write awkwardly and badly, however, mistakes will be produced throughout a post not just when dealing with pronouns.

It is an example of the repeated microaggressions that minorities face. Although in this case it was more than a microaggression but rather a deliberate provocation and insult.

Actually Mr Pratt's post was littered with spelling and grammatical errors. Many, I suspect were the result of a great outpouring of information, emotion etc.
It is awkward though, when someone is trying to display their competence and professionalism, and they go and muck it up by not reading through.

I suggest there is also a poor understanding of how to use word processing effectively. A number of posters here and elsewhere appear to prepare their posts in something like Notepad, sized to suit their screen, and become hard to read as a result. I suspect the proof reading suffers equally.

just to wrap a couple of things up. The post was reported by someone other than Robin and corrected . there are a few occasions where Robin is i'm sure accidentally. incorrectly addressed by various posters . We do try and catch and correct these

Secondly if the WSRA does consider selling the QB set @steam_mad is on the lookout for FO's

Agreed. I guess I would just expect more care and attention to details from someone in a position of influence.

    Thanks all.

But can we now move on from this. I wanted to thanks the Mods but perhaps I should have done that more privately.

I am very 'out' as a transperson in my working life as a discrimination barrister, and given that I have just jointly published 'A Practical Guide to Transgender Law' it is inevitable that my personal circumstances get discussed a fair amount.

But I do prefer to just be a railwayman in the railway field - when I am allowed to be. Anyone else going to the Terrier weekend at the IOWR?

Oh No! Not the spelling and grammer Police! That's all we need on here now! Possibly Chris Pratt may have a form of dyslexia, That does not make him incompetent for goodness sake!
I also totally agree with Noel @jnc Yes can we talk about trains and yes I am fed up to the back teeth with all the politics from the same set of people.
I can quite see why the WSR board are reluctant to share any information on Nat Pres.
As a retired professional railwayman and life member of two preservation societies, I have been there seen it and let it all go over my head. Indeed if tinternet and Nat Pres had been around, 40 years ago, I wonder how many "Zillions" of posts the railway thread (That also features in the top ten on here) would have generated.
