Ah, ok thanks, I imagined it arriving in Eastleigh smoke box towards London - I thought it would stay that way all day.

Surely it will be boiler first from Portsmouth to Brockenhurst?

Unless it’s leading from Eastleigh to Portsmouth?

    61306 leads set to Eastleigh where 31806 will be waiting facing London. U backs onto train still facing London and the ensemble heads to Portsmouth. So the tour continues from Portsmouth as such;
    Portsmouth - Brockenhurst (31806 leading, 61306 tailing)
    Brockenhurst - Eastleigh (61306 leading, 31806 tailing)
    Eastleigh - Portsmouth (31806 leading, 61306 tailing).
This leaves the B1 facing the right direction to head to London chimney first - tour heads back to Eastleigh with 31806 tailing. On arrival at Eastleigh, the U is still facing South, and therefore a turning move is required so that it arrives on the SR tender first.

Your lines are crossed, 31806 joins the back of the train at Eastleigh so Mayflower continues to haul the train to Portsmouth, this means the U can haul the consist to Brockenhurst.

Will RL has it correct above.

31806 goes on the back at Eastleigh and as said above it will be facing London. So leads the ECS from PH to Fratton and the mini tour out of P&S to Brockenhurst.

How nice to see someone using the historic name for Brockenhurst. The golf club, Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club, is the only other time I've seen it used.
Edit: apparently it was the LSWR's fault as they spelt it wrong on the station name boards and the wrong name just stuck!

Is Mayflower OK after the issue that affected the Royal Windsor and Sunset Steam Expresses last week?

Another local steam charter. Two in a week! Won’t be able to cover it all as being entertained by daughter to a Father’s Day lunch.

It is a complex one. I spent ages trying to work out why the U needed to turn to get back to Swanage. Even emailed a friend he also did not understand, we both missed the reversal at Eastleigh of the mini tour. In fact I totally missed it went back via Eastleigh not direct.

I wonder how many tour passengers will be making a quick trip to The Foresters or The Snakecatcher?

Does anyone know if 61306 is a runner tomorrow, only it was apparently declared a failure last Tuesday with a leaking tube plate.
Not sure how serious that is?

Shame the Morant Arms is no longer there, would have saved a few steps!

    They'll have to make it a quick one - the train's only at Brock for 36 minutes . . . .

It left Paddington 1 down and is now 15 down, having lost time gradually throughout; hope all is well with 61306.
