A bit of dirt all adds to the effect - now we need an oval scorched effect on the bottom of the smokebox door!

 

A couple of human interest ones from yesterday. The lads in the white van drove up in a hurry and leapt onto the roof of their van to see 31806 being watered at P&S!

 

I don’t think anyone ‘demanded’ they be refitted, but surely something that helps those that operate it a bit more visibility can’t be a bad thing surely?

 

I don't think they serve any useful purpose on the 2-6-0s but in BR livery they should be there.

 

Just watching a video of 31806 on YouTube and they appear to be doing their job. There was obviously a reason why they were added.

Possibly Dave was on Footplate Inspector/Route Conductor duty.
Due to the length of day I wonder if there was a second crew to get 31806 back to Swanage?

 

Heading north through Northumberland under rapidly darkening skies this afternoon.

 

There was, Driver Andy Hawkins & Fireman John Shaw, Phil Cowley was also on board the U for the return to Swanage.

Does 31806 have a Stanier 'Caledonian' hooter?.

 

Going back to last Sunday's trips around Portsmouth, here are some shots of 61306 & 31806 taken at Fareham, Netley and Botley:

 

I see 60103 made it to Edinburgh yesterday just four minutes late, albeit on a generous schedule. First Fife Circle running to time today so whatever the problem was last Saturday, it doesn't seem to have affected her performance so far this week.

 

I know its going to Preston from Edinburgh via Carlisle- but is it via the S & C ? - found this from Carlisle to Preston on Sunday

Quick edit whilst waiting for the second train round the circle, certainly do not get more world-famous iconic views than this from a railway perspective ...

The brochure that was on the SD web site did say it was via the S&C to Preston.

 

Does anyone know who the driver of 60103 was yesterday from York to Edinburgh?
