At 6pm, just before the news started the announcer said there was going to be something about steam locomotives on tonight's One Show at 7pm BBC1. No more details at this time. :-k

Dan Snow at Beamish, having a ride behind Locomotion, talking about the first train. Also a couple of clips of Tornado's naming, much to the childish amusement of Radio One's Chris Moyles....

Think people are perhaps overreacting a little bit, he didnt try and sound like he was interested in a bizarre and random feature that wasnt interesting, despite their attempt to make it seem like it was.

It can be found on the iplayer here at roughly 18mins in.

He was just acting up because he doesn't like the concept of the one show at all, he was only there to promo climbing kilamajaro for comic relief. I missed the actual reason for the Locomotion #1 feature though, is there any particular anniversary on that I am stupidly not being aware of? I've ridden on that Beamish replica, its a thrill a minute \:D/

Bet he's still as fat as ever though, granted the one show isn't everyones cup of tea but it's taking the proverbial to treat it with utter contempt if your using it as a base for your shameless plug,

He's fit enough to climb a mountain to raise money for comic relief - thats makes him a good man in my book. Judge by deed - not appearence.

[MontyPython]As the climb is being done for Comic Relief, they really ought to complete the bridge between the twin peaks of Kilimanjaro, or at least try to find any trace of last year's expedition...[/MontyPython] ;-)

Perhaps they should try a new format which just involves Christine Bleakley sitting there for 30 minutes and cut the rest out. She is the only thing that people watch the show for anyway, or am I guilty of judging everyone else by my own base standards..... :smt002

I got the impression from what they were saying that each night this week a British invention that changed the world will be featured.
They referrred hough to steam trains, not locos. Although it was stressed that Stephenson's Locomotion was the first steam loco tdesigned and built to haul freaight and fare paying passengers, I feel many people will therefore continue believing Stephenson invented the steam loco.

The biographies state he saw what Trevithick had created in South Wales, copied and improved it.

Whatever he does for charity doesn't stop him from being a loud mouthed yob. The likes of which you can see in any town centre on a Friday/Saturday night.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I joined this forum because it discusses (i) railways in general; and (ii) steam traction in particular.

So why are we wasting time discussing Chris Moyles?

Nothing wrong with admirming a good looking girl, she was the only reason I got temporarily interested in Come Dancing for a short while. She'd be my choice for a new series of Railway Walks, Julia Bradbury doesn't do much for me, either physically or as a presenter.
